I would like to know for future reference. I actually have my first Tomica incoming from Japan, and from what I have seen, it's around the same size as the HW version of this particular car. Still, I have my eye on others so I would like to know this. Thanks in advance! |

Yes, Regular Tomica are in the same size "range" as MBX and HW in that they fit into the category of 3 inch diecast. Actual scale varies depending on the model. However, if you are referring to Limited Vintage or Limited Vintage-Neo then those are all exact 1/64 scale. |

Yes, I was referring to regular Tomicas. TLV is a little too pricey for me, though they look very nice. Thank you! |

Just like Hot Wheels, scale varies on the regular issues, to fit the package. Big trucks become tiny and tiny cars become larger scaled. These pics are older, but show a Tomica Honda CR-V with a Maisto and Matchbox:![]() ![]() |

A thought that just came to mind, is to make sure you are aware of "Capsule Tomica" models. They are much, much smaller than regular Tomicas, and even come in a mini Tomica box, but they are not Hot Wheels size, are far less detailed / accurate, and are typically priced lower (which has fooled some people who think they're getting a great deal on regular Tomica models). Google searching for Capsule Tomica will give you an idea of what to look for in differences between the regular Tomica and Capsule Tomica. |

Indeed. One thing to watch for is boxes that have "YUJIN" in the upper right corner (front box art). |

Aren't a handful of brand new Tomicas smaller now? The big Toyota sedans with roof accessories (police light bar or taxi sign for example) come to mind. |

As mentioned, the scale of Tomica varies, and is all over the place, but yes, a few of the more recent models have been of a scale smaller than typical. One example was No. 98 Toyota Avensis and was 1/75. My suggestion to anyone shopping online for Tomica is to always look carefully at what you're buying. If they come with a box, they almost always have the scale on the front of the box. And the same goes for the base - the scale is almost always on the base. |

I know of a similar thing, where Tomica 118, the Toyota Coaster kindergarten bus, has a scale of 1/89, but Tomica 38, the Toyota iRoad, has a scale of 1/41. I can see why, but Tomica seems to want to have them all around the same size from the owner's viewpoint as these two cars when compared aren't too far off the same size from what I see, despite the difference in scale being just over twice as big on the Coaster when you look at the iRoad / Auto Body Coms too. Not so much related, but: I like buying Tomica online about once every one to three months (the life of a collector in a non-Tomica country) from certain buyers in Hong Kong and other Tomica countries. I've built up a collection of between 50 and 60 now but after almost completing the Toyota models which I hope to get (the last six will be ordered over the weekend), I'm moving onward to a different brand - not as in company, as in car - to something like Daihatsu; but I also find checking first for any issues on the photos of the car is best because a lot of sellers decline returns or have a limit to 14 days which is shorter than the time it takes to arrive at my house. I like how Tomica have the scale on the box and you don't have to guess, like with Siku or other similar brands. |

Tomica are closer in size to Hot Wheels than Matchbox, although like both those brands the actual scale varies from model to model. Not every model is the same scale as the HW representation, the HW R32 GT-R is 1:64, the Tomica one is 1:59, but since a lot of HW imports are around 1:58-61 and a lot of Tomicas also are, they generally work well together. Like others have mentioned they typically show the scale the specific casting is in so you can check before buying. |

Thanks to everyone! My first Tomica is a Dubai Police Aventador....or will be when it arrives. I like quite a few of their other castings as well, especially their Mercedes Benz SLS AMG and Spyker C8(which came as a huge surprise to me). |

Great to hear that you're going to add some Tomica! Trust me, you will be pleased virtually all of the models are well done, and the addition of opening features on a number of their are awesome- they really add to the model, plus they look quite natural (not forced). As for the size, the replies above confirm what you need to know, so I won't elaborate on that too much. I would also highly suggest adding some Limited and Limited Vintage models in the future, as you will be blown away by the quality and accuracy of those models. They are pricey, but totally worth it. The Dubai Aventador is really nicely done- one of my favourites as of late. The SLS AMG (with opening doors) and the Spyker are also two that I added in the past two years, and both are awesome. Thanks! Tomica has definitely gotten my attention. The Dubai Police Aventador is the only Tomica I have incoming at the moment, though, but I like what I see for the most part! I'm actually in the process of cleaning out my room little by little(which includes donating a ton of die-cast I don't really want anymore) so I have more space, which is necessary if I want more die-cast and Lego. Between Kyosho, Tomica, HW, and MBX, this will be fun :). For TL and TLV, it might be a while until I am able get them, but I'll consider it! |
