Today's car of the day is Norev's 2002 Opel Combo Tour.

Wikipedia

The Opel Combo is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle from the German automaker Opel. The Combo first appeared in 1993, a second generation model was introduced in 2001, and the third has been manufactured from December 2011, based on the Fiat Doblo. The name "Combo" was previously applied as a suffix to a 3-door panel van body style of Opel Kadett E. The Combo B and Combo C share platforms, vital components and some body panels with contemporary subcompact Opel Corsas, which used to be a typical pedigree for such a vehicle. They are also known as Opel Corsa Combo. The second generation was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in September 2001. While most competitors severed their connections with their subcompact brethren, Opel decided to base the vehicle on the Corsa again. The use of subcompact Gamma platform constrained the overall width of the vehicle. While the general body shape was updated to fashionable "flush" look, the front part (up to the A-pillar) is shared with the Corsa.

As part of the Opel dealer promotional series, Norev released both the Combo cargo van as well as this Combo Tour passenger van. Newer Opels aren't very common in small scale, so the group of Opels released by Norev were a welcome addition for my collection. I've never had the opportunity to see one of these minivans in person, with the real car not being available for sale in the U.S., but I still really like the model. I also enjoyed the fact that Norev gave it opening rear doors to play with.

Wikipedia

Compared to previous generation, the Combo C gained sliding rear side doors (versions with either single passenger side door or double doors are available). An Opel Combo Tour version was also introduced, followed by Opel Combo Tour Tramp (Combo Tour Arizona in some markets), in an effort to attract leisure activity vehicle buyers. Combo Tour Tramp/Arizona was thought as a more off-road recreational vehicle. It features enhanced suspension tuning, increased ground clearance, chassis protection covers and numerous styling details that differentiate it from standard Combo Tours, with the intention to conjure a sturdy, outdoor-sports-related image. Commercial van versions retained the symmetrical twin rear doors, while the Tour versions have an option of a single tailgate (opening to the top).

:toy: I was not aware that Opel had a small van like vehicle. Very nice to see this one from Norev in small scale. The opening rear door is definitely a nice play feature as is the tow hook. I am trying to recall though, did Norev ever make any types of trailers for their cars and vans to tow?

Compact
Nice model but needs better wheels. Those fat doughnuts and ride height don't suit it. Good choice for van of the day.

I don't thing this sort of vehicle is a common sight in the US - but in Europe it is. This one isn't a common sight in the UK as the Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner have more or less cornered the market.

This particular version of the Opel uses the Gamma platform, which is shared by the Chevy Trax and Sonic. It's successor is made in Turkey and is the same as our Dodge Promaster City.

Looks great! I myself care more for everyday utilitarian cars than exotics. Is the body plastic?

Not that I am remembering right off the top of my head. Even though so many of Norev's cars came with the tow hitches.

Correct. Opel is not sold in the US, and even though I have seen some Opels, including the Corsa (marketed through Chevrolet) from Mexico, this van is not one of the vehicles I've even seen.

The newest generation, which came after the version shown as COTD, is based on the Fiat Doblo. The generation shown here was built from the Opel Corsa.

The body and base are all metal, making it a pretty heavy toy. The opening doors in the back are plastic, as is the separate part of the rear bumper, but otherwise the rest is metal (including the matte black painted front bumper and the sides behind the rear wheels, which may look plastic in the pictures, based on how nice the paint job is).

Quite of few new Opels sold here in North America. Of course they are rebadges. For example, like my '13 Buick Regal GS AKA Opel Insignia. Opel Mokka AKA Buick Encore, Opel Cascada AKA Buick Cascada and the former Chevy Captiva AKA Opel Antara, Opel Astra AKA Saturn Astra.

I wish we could get the Opel Adam here stateside.

 Opel's were sold in the US back in the '70's - my sister had one - thinking it was a Manta GT but to long ago to remember. Know my then girl friend/now wife really enjoyed making that little mustard coupe fly! :D
