It may have been covered in years gone by, but I've never seen this explained. When Playing Mantis first started with the Topper recasts, they eventually came out with the never before released models, including the Mustang and the Toronado. When they hit the shelves, I immediately noticed that the taillights on these two had been swapped around. :duh: How did that happen at the casting design level? The Mustang looked kinda cool with the Toronado lights, but the Toronado didn't look quite as cool to me.

Hi lil rod shop:

I know what you're saying about the Toronado taillights, but did you mean another car that was never released since Topper did issue the Toronado? (The original Topper release features those Mustang-like taillights.) The Charger maybe? :(

I never got into the Topper stuff at all, so I never paid much or any attention to the castings...

Honestly, they weren't my thing either. But of all the Topper cars the Custom Ferrari and Custom Toronado were my favorites.

Alas, Playing Mantis didn't reproduce the Ferrari.

Thanks for the response, Mac! I'm not sure that I have a Charger, so I don't remember what it's taillights look like. I've never had (or seen) an original Topper Toronado, so I wasn't aware of its taillights. I guess that pushes the question way back to the original Topper design team. I won't be losing sleep over it, though, since the Toppers weren't really my thing either, for the same reason my interest in Hot Wheels is waining - too many fantasy models! :hmph:
Ironically enough, one of the handful (literally) of original Toppers I have left is a Custom Ferrari in purple with red interior. Though it's merely in decent shape, I couldn't pass it up 20 years ago for $5. :dribble:

Does look kind of odd, but it is suppose to represent a custom car.
