Some are stamped with "H" numbers (like "H44" above) and the newer ones are stamped with "J" numbers. Did they skip "I" numbers?

:toy: Sad to see more and more of the bodies going to all plastic but that seems to be the wave of the future for little cars...at least from Mattel. It will not stop me from getting the ones I want to add to my collection. Neat to see the movable dish on the TV truck.

From what I understood Mark, they don't use "I" or "O" prefix letters for anything because they can be too easily mistaken for the similar looking numbers one and zero.

At least I thought I read this on a Matchbox board in past years.

Some nice models I want from this batch, even that Travel Trecker, while not so appealing to me in realism, I'll still want it since it's a camper with a removable shell to boot.

And finally the A-100, I'd been seeing it in that TRU 20 pack all year, but never seen any sign of it otherwise.....Now the only thing is to hope somebody leaves me one on the pegs, the Dodge is a very popular casting it seems.

Plastic really doesn't bother me on new castings, but it really annoys me when old ones are retooled to plastic--i.e. the IH Armored Truck in this batch. My case for raising the price is that--how many other things are still the same price since 1975? That way, if Mattel raised the price to even $1.50 retail, we could see higher quality castings. Majo and Tomica are quadruple what a Matchbox is, and they still retain (if not improved a little) all the stuff they had when they were available here. The least Mattel can do is leave castings that are mostly metal and have plenty of working parts (most of these were phased out years ago) in premium lineups. Problem is, (in economic jargon), Matchbox is an elastic good, meaning that for everyone but us collectors, if the price goes up, not as many people will buy it. In fact, I believe that's why Tomica never did well here with their recent relaunches over the years after Tomy's acquisition of Ertl was that they were usually $4 compared to $1 for a Matchbox. I do believe, however $1.50 or $2 can get improved models without too big a jump in price.

Sorry for the economic jargon.

Most are pretty nice looking models. Swamp Raider is another model that I feel has been hampered by the $1 price point. It would have been a much better model if those faux wheels were able to fold in and out to represent both ground and water use .

Very nice finds!

Wait, you mean the Swamp Commander? I was going to ask if those wheels were hinged or not. You mean the wheels don't swivel up & down? They sure look like they should.

edit - fixed a spelling error ;)

Yes. There are way too many models with names that are similar.

Yes, the SWAMP COMMANDER's "wheels" are fixt into place. They are part of the interior casting. There are four little black wheels underneath that the model uses.

Thank you. Yes, I guess I44 could look like 144.

This one has a new MAN number due to it being altered. The lower grey section is plastic. On the earlier #745, it would be metal.
