#988 POWER LIFT:

Posted Image

This one has been altered as well and therefore gets a new MAN number. It concerns the rear wheels. The two wheels and axle are now formed as one simple piece. The same goes for the SWAMP COMMANDER shown on the previous page.

The earlier #704 POWER LIFT for reference:

Nice to see that Walmart has been yielding dividends for you! That reminds me, I really need to visit Walmart a bit more - even though it is farther than I'd like.

Keep those finds coming!

It'd be great to see Walmarts around home with some new stuff when I get back, but those I've entered on this trip (for ice and food) have been no better than what I left behind a couple weeks ago.

Except in that little Utah town I mentioned earlier.

#862 1966 DODGE A100 PICKUP:

Posted Image

Was just looking on ebay to see why I still don't see the Matchbox Heroes Dodge A 100 on the pegs, still popular there I guess. Anyway, I noticed a new color for the basic range issue already..... hope I can still find this version though.

#946 SCRAPER:

Posted Image

This one has a new MAN number due to it being altered. The lower grey section is plastic. On the earlier #745, it would be metal.

The scraper looks like a National Parks issue.

And you'd be right......might seem a bit of a stretch, but many parks and ranger districts "own" heavy equipment for road maintenance work. Therefore a reasonable application for the livery.

#938 FORD F-350 SUPER DUTY SUPERLIFT: Posted Image

This one has a new MAN number because the rear bumper is now a part of the base plate rather than the body as on #837.

Posted Image Only the grey part is metal. The rest is plastic. And it has a trailer hitch.

The base plate shows four extra false wheels:

I found this #15 FORK LIFT TRUCK at thrift store in a bag of mixt diecast models:

I can't believe the incredible condition it is in! Previous models I have have separate steering wheels. This one has the steering wheel cast with the body.

How can an imaginary toy vehicle be compared (scale-wise) to a non-existent "real" vehicle?! Well, one way is that the designer has a particular size of "real" vehicle in mind with which to compare the miniature. Not entirely unreasonable. But, this example implies a 1:1 that itself would be a miniature compared to a real fire engine. Maybe the "inspiration" for this model in the designer's head was a Shriner's mini car....... B)

Of course, I understand your actual indignant surprise......and it shocks me that toy designers (who have to have some engineering knowledge and experience with CAD, etc.) would not understand the meaning of "scale", and worse, mark it permanently on something with the designer's "signature" on it.

If this is the state of affairs in today's world, we might as well stop using measuring cups to make our pancakes. If proportions don't matter any more, just dump things randomly together into a bowl (apparently the size of the bowl is no longer relevant, either) and mix until they "look right to an inexperienced eye". Who cares if they cook right, or taste okay? Heck, nobody, apparently.

Even more unbelievably, the Seagrave is a "scale model" with plenty of space on it's nearly flat base...yet there's NO SCALE indicated there. The Mack B is a "scale model", but similar to this generic fire engine has "1:64" for the scale, obviously NOT TRUE. And for some reason, the Pierce Dash gives a reasonably trustworthy scale (1:123) in its base. Why, why, why do they do this? (I think they must like 'hearing' us ridicule this inconsistency year after year......)
