I am thinking a number of collectors picked these up as part of the beginning of the "new JL" and thought they would be neat to have as they reminded us of the early JL model - even though they were not the best castings on the market. Was neat to see how JL developed into a powerful player in the diecast market before the buyouts and such.

If I recall the story...these are Topper Johnnys that never were. A few models (the Camaro and Charger from the race track sets, the Lincoln, probably others) were not repops in the traditional sense, in that Topper had proposed them and even had pre-pros made in preparation, but they never made it to market before the company went bankrupt. So when Playing Mantis relaunched the JL brand, these "never were" cars were included in the second batch. And they *are* Mustangs, afterall...even if the Chargers and Camaros are considerably harder to find. Do I see a raw zamac version? If so, that is a desirable "Q" car, only a handful (I want to say 50 sets) were made, and were a gift from the company to those who filled out a questionnaire. I'm not sure the Mustang was included in those though, I was under the impression it was the first batch of Toppers that made up the Q car set. At any rate, while I appreciate they aren't "factory stock," I would enjoy those for what they are. Cheers! |

I would say because it is history. Colors are colorful that's for sure. |

Thanks for the look and comments guys! It looks like a White Lightning there and a 1997 SEMA Promo too...they are still ugly.

I had a set of the Q cars but don't recall what all was a part of it - think there are still some of them down in the basement. Times I have offered them in the sale forum there was no interest.

Would you sell them? Not to me. They are not in my wheel house. But, others might be interested in them. |

I gotta say, I was never very impressed at all with this whole era of Johnny. These cars were way out of proportion and rather goofy looking... ![]() ![]() I really didn't start collecting Johnnys until this series was released, but still allot to be said about these cars.. ![]() When I started seeing more refined and detailed castings such as these is when I went crazy over Johnny!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() All the way up to todays Johnnys, but the 6 buck price tags limit me to the extreme!!! ![]()
