I do think Johnny may be on the right path here releasing better stock, and daily driver varys of these old castings. With a 6 dollar price tag, very, very few people are going to but their kid a JL to play with and tear up. They will more than likely stick em' with a 1 dollar HW car. To target the adult collectors this is a better approach, but I really don't think sales will be over whelming...

that was one of best parts before. The other being unique cars that they have made.

The power wagon looks really nice. I like the engine paint and detail on the mercury. Now if the released production cars look just as nice - still abit pricey, but I also see treaded rubber (?) tires.

I personally would like to see the loose wheel sets packaged and sent to market again. Especially those sloted wheels and top hats on the truck and toronado!

Thanks for the images.
The Mercury Montego looks nice but it was always a nice Johnny Lightning casting IMHO.
Below are my favourite JL versions from the past:

BYW, there were two wheel/tire versions of this specific casting.

Look closely at the above image and you will notice that the vent (side wing) window on the door is still a solid piece of diecast.
This was an issue with many JL collectors in the past.
Other than that issue, this casting looks very nice.

Having moved on from Johnny Lightning diecast to Greenlight, I doubt that I will go back.

Cheers. Cobra

I completely agree with Stangfreak's assessment that the Daily Driver strategy just might work for Johnny Lightning. I think by selecting the castings more unique such as the Montego, Dodge Aspen, Pontiac 2 + 2, Olds Toronado done in daily driver motif, they will get the collectors to bite. Most of the sports cars and muscle cars have been done more recently and with better detail. Even an avid collector like myself has to draw the line somewhere when it comes to the budget.

As a Malaise Era aficionado, I agree and love this whole release. When I get the Montego I'm drilling it out and painting interior white.

I've been eyeing the new JL as of late. I especially like that upcoming Dodge Warlock and the already out AMC Rebel Machine.

Judging by how popular those Auto World wagons seem to be, I'd say JL could do some other classic 4 doors that aren't really seen.

'61 and '66 Ford Fairlane 4-doors, 1959 DeSoto, Citroen DS, 1964 Olds Vista Cruiser, Aston Martin Lagonda and 1996 Honda Accord are already in the JL casting bank.

Ah, so it's a matter of bringing them back. The Lagoda and Accord would be really cool to see.

Living in the DFW area my perspective of a daily driver is a bit skewed as I will see this body style vitually everyday that I am out driving around. Many from my circle of friends and aquantencies still drive these to work or as their everyday vehicle as well.

And if I am in North North Dallas - they do like their luxery brand and exotics and will drive them to the grocery store and Wal Mart! Did Johnny every make Jags and Mercs? The younger tech dots will also have their Lambos and Audis in front of the coffee shops over there!
