Photos from a Japanese car meet

I attended a Japanese car meeting at a camping resort that had members from local Toyota, Datsun and Mazda clubs. This meet is open for everyone and featured all kinds of cars, from classics to tuner cars and otherwise exceptional rides.

Thought you guys in the States would like to see how Jap car culture is here in Finland!

Here are pics of some of the nicest rides in my opinion.

The driver of the maroon sunburst car needs a smack upside the head for the 'drivers names' on the side, but a nice selection of vehicles. At least of the ones shown, only the last one gets a little silly with the poke and stretch too. Cool stuff. :)

I'm aware of that, thus the quote marks around it. I'm not Mr. PC guy, but that's still a bit insensitive.

Lot's of nice cars! I have a few friends in Finland that belong to some Japanese car clubs, so maybe they were there too.
It seems Finland has a long history of Japanese cars, especially Toyotas.

In general I think the Finnish collectors have much better taste in 'preservation' or 'presentation' of Japanese cars than we have here in the states (that's just my own personal opinion and tastes speaking).

Not to go off on a tangent, but I would like to say...

While I agree with Hobie, I think it's important to remember this is a global village, and there are often big cultural differences in political correctness. The use of "Jap" in some countries, seems to be 'okay', but from and American point of view (especially Japanese American), it is completely bad PC. We don't know the full context of the names in the window... so it could be culturally acceptable, or it could also be poor thinking and bad taste on the owner's part.

As a side note, even in Japan they are not free from the mis-use of "American" words. Through my wife (who is Japanese - born and raised) I have learned that they use many American words just because they sound funny or because it "looks good in writing" - you can see this on a lot of t-shirts or in Japanese magazines.... and that includes the use of the F-bomb as well as other words. To them, it is funny and cute, and they often don't know the actual meaning or context of the word. To us, it seems offensive.

Indeed. I didn't want to go off on a tangent.

ANYway.

Fun gathering of neat cars, first and foremost. :)

a lot of cool cars ...remember the 1976 Celica ST ...when I was a student and was in Great Britain for a few weeks in the 1980s ...my host family over there drove one in metallic blue. Cool car and great sound (if I remember right) :)

Love the red Corona sedan in this photo. Interesting to see what's collected. In the US, usually the only Japanese cars are the sports cars like the 240Z (and derivatives), Miata, etc. I'm a sedan guy, and enjoy seeing preserved Japanese metal. Not common in the northeast USA.

No, it's not just you. I was going to say the exact same thing! I spy a Starlet - saw one on Friday at an auto glass shop. Unfortunately by the time I got my camera it was gone. :( I'd much rather see cars like that than a 280Z with a 350 Chevy swap. And yes, I've seen more than one of those. :(

Very interesting cars indeed. Most are left hand drive and in my opinion, it proofs that scandinavian car buyers were more open minded towards japanese cars back then.
