The last, truly great, French car; A brilliant find in a local antiques store.

I had to write an exceptionally long, heartfelt, and melancholy blog post for this one. :( :( :( I do encourage you to read it if you have the time. A lady directed me to a new street in my local town where I found one of the nicest antiques shop (truest sense of the word) I've ever been to. There, in a cabinet, glittering in this beautiful red paint, was the Citroen SM, a woefully tragic reminder of just how great one of my favourite car companies - Citroen - was. So I brought her home and now she's sitting in all her glory.

 A wonderful addition to your collection. Citroen is one of those unique and intriguing brands that doesn't get a lot of thought here in the US. The one real Citroen I remember is from the early '60's - my father's commanding officer at the Air Force base he was stationed at drove a Citroen DS19 and being a kid who was loved cars this one fascinated me. Enjoyed your blog on the Citroen!

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
The SM comes in two flavors. There's the original timeless design (one of the world's most beautiful cars, hands-down):

And then there's this, the Americanized blasphemy (with a nose only its mother could love):

From a time when Citroens were truly unique and distinctive cars.

The MB SM is listed on the BAMCA database as being 1/63 scale. Gotta get me one! B)

Outdated US lighting regulations meant the self levelling headlights that swivelled with the front wheels had to be replaced with fixed beam lamps. It's like the car was lobotomised - it looks utterly vacant after they ruined it

These old Citroen's always looked so neat to me, guess it was just there unusual look that caught my attention. Thanks for the post, I enjoyed the excellent photos and write up, congrats on finding this great Matchbox model too.
