Surgery Today

In a couple of hours I go in for prostate surgery - have a very enlarged prostate that needs to be made smaller so will have a TURP done (transurethral resection). :D At this point all biopsies do not show any cancer but all tissue will be checked with the surgical procedure for any abnormalities. Will be in the hospital at least one day and maybe two.

For all you men out there who are getting older...it is one of those things, like the colonoscopy, that should be done to check for cancer. My family has a history of cancer on both sides so am watched closely. We may not like these types of exams but they are essential for our health - trust me I have done way to many funerals for guys who have died from colon and prostate cancer. :(

Full recovery from this is six to eight weeks - but should be up and able to do most basic things in the next week or so.

 Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. I am home. The surgery went well - the doctor removed 59% of my prostate in a two hour procedure. Well he kept saying it was huge. All blood work and other tests indicate no cancer! :D So now the recovery. Unlike my past orthopedic procedures where I had things to remind me of my limits - this time I don't so just have to keep the mind set of being real careful for the next six weeks. Fortunately I am blessed with a fantastic wife to help me in this recovery as well as that wonderful orange therapy kitty. :D

John, Glad to read the surgery went well, and all is good. The resting will give you more time to spend on the boards, that is, unless you can still travel to go visit the grandkids instead!
