I got out my Lesney collection the other day just to admire them and see how much I could remember of each car. Where, when, or who I got them from. Memories seem to be fading as I get older but do remember many of them. I decided to look up some of them and ran across this link concerning some history on them. I found this to be pretty interesting and made me a bit more proud of my collection. I'm pretty sure you all have read how I came across this collection I had completely forgotten about, and how I was able to come across it after my grandma had passed away. This was a very interesting read for me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesney_Products ![]() ![]() These cars lack much of the detail the diecast of today possess, but the quality of these old Lesneys is absolutely amazing to me, especially for the time period they were all made and released. This is a part of my collection that my son (Sean) knows well of, and his son (Cayden) as well. It all will be kept intact and passed on to Sean when my time here on earth is up, and then on to Cayden when the time comes. I had this part of my collection appraised separately when I had my whole collection appraised several years ago for a home owners insurance policy. To my surprise the insurance man gave this collection a value of $3,500.00 in the mid 90s. Many times I stumbled over some finance problems, but never once did it enter my mind to sell one of these cars. I used to have this covered wagon set, but it was stolen from me several years ago. I was ash to set up a display at a fair in Hilliard Ohio and my display would be guarded. It wasn't guarded well enough. I have been watching for another one in decent condition and reasonable priced, but never have found one yet. ![]() I also have this Esso Station I would love to have back with the rest of my collection. It is suppose to be boxed and stored safely at a great aunt's house I used to stay with in the early to mid 70s, in southern Tennessee, but knowing my greedy, worthless cousins, I seriously doubt it. Mabe one day I will go see...LOL ![]() These old Lesney~Matchbox cars are amazing little cars and trucks. Although I have many years of the little catalogs they issued from as far back as 1961 (that I know of), there are still many models I have never seen ... ![]() I have since, got into restoring a few I have found in thrift stores, flea markets, or swap meets. I made these light poles for a friend to made his sBP station look complete. ![]() ![]() ![]() I made this little roof from styrene plastic to complete this Site Hut Truck. ![]() ![]() ![]() I've made doors for the Fire Stations. ![]() ![]() ![]() I made a complete roof for this Fire House. ![]() ![]() ![]() I made molds to cast several style replacement seats for the MOYs. ![]() Two recent car restorations. Found these two in a thrift shop and gave it a shot. They had very little of the original paint left on them. I bought the dog and hunter from Toy Resto years ago. ![]() ![]() Edited by Stangfreak, Sep 27 2016, 01:40 PM.

Found a few other restos from the past. This trailer needed a top and new paint. Made the top from Styrene plastic also... ![]() ![]() ![]() A repaint on this old Rolls. ![]() ![]() ![]() And this Impala Taxi as well. ![]() ![]() This Opal was really wasted. Missing hood ans 3 wheels. Not much to do except make a drag custom...LOL ![]() ![]() Here's the finished Fire House doors. I cut and glued sandpaper to the lower halves of the doors to look like the originals. Then painted over all red. ![]() |

Great idea and execution on the Opel drag car! I also love the repaint on the Rolls Royce- too bad Matchbox didn't believe in many recolors back in the Lesney era. I had the majority of your Lesney collection as a child, but beat the heck out of many and lost others. I've been able to obtain most of them as an adult collector in much better condition than they otherwise would have been, but there's something much more special about having the originals from your childhood. Thanks for sharing these pictures- very cool! |
