Convoy and Other MBX Finds

A visit to the quarterly train show in the area yielded me a nice variety of somewhat older Matchbox items, and I was excited at the value, so I thought I'd share it here.

The Convoys and 2-pack were only $3 each, and the single issues were $1-2 each, so even though the packages are a pick tattered and some are duplicates for me, how could I resist.

I also picked up this 1974 Dealer Catalog from Jeff, a dealer friend I always see set up there. He sold me this for $8, and that seemed like a great deal for an old dealers catalog, I do have a couple Majorette dealer catalogs, and many Matchbox pocket catalogs in my collection, but this is my first dealer catalog for the Matchbox brand, so I'm excited to have it, and plan on posting photos of it here sometime in the near future.

The Welly ambulance, I also got there, is just shown for size, which I guess is about 8.5 X 11.

Threads like this make me wish I lived in a more populous state close to places with regular train and toy shows (like when I still had a reason to spend time in southern California back in the 80s, when Mom still lived there).

Some bargains can still be found! That is so encouraging.....Doug, do you have a 'mother-in-law' apartment in your garage? Can I come live there?

I'm having to wait until mid-November before there's another large-ish flea market at the fairgrounds here....but I've found similar bargains at that show in past years, so I am always willing to go (and it only costs $1 to get in since I'm so OLD.....)

Very nice haul Douglas!

Does the Metallic Blue MB39 Ford Bronco have the orange "BRONCO" tempa on the hood or windshield?

Every one of those I pick up at toy shows has the hood print. I have only found one with the windshield tempa and that was back in 1992 when it was first released.

Thanks W Gee and everyone else!

Here are a few closer images of the Indy singles, and then some of the other stuff.

I've never seen a Convoy package like the last one before, doesn't appear to be a date on it.

I'm not sure about the Bronco Jason, I didn't think to look closer at it, or take photos today, but I'll check and let you know.

Jason, I checked and it has the tampo on hood, none on windshield.

Thanks Hobie. I'm a fan of collecting sets as well. It's funny that after I got home I thought they had charged me $3 by mistake for the Golf 2-pack, which didn't bother me because it is still cheap, but then I re-added in my head and it came out right for the price marked.

It's amazing, isn't it when you actually pay less than old sticker prices on a piece, or in this case multiple pieces. I like everything shown.

Great finds and prices. Wasn't there a Cadillac Allante that was a part of that Indy series or am I thinking of another commemorative? I seem to recall having one that I got at the 1993 Indy 500. Must have been left over from the previous year when the Allante was the pace car.

Great stuff. The Kenworth COE boat carrier looks nice, and of course the Golf with boat trailer.

Glad you are all liking what I got, there were others too, they were all on a big table, but the lady said this Mbx stuff had been popular all morning, I'm sure I missed some other good stuff before, and passed on more because I still have a tendency to budget my spending even when I find good deals.....and sometimes regret it later. :D

Microbuss, yes those circle stickers were the prices they wanted for their Matchbox.

Cody, I find it amazing too, but know sometimes you can't even get retail on some collectibles, although I suspect this was probably someones liquidated collection the dealer picked up for pennies on the dollar value, so he was able to price them to sell.

JeepXJLover, you are right about the Alante in the Indy series, there was even one in the piles on the table at this show, but I knew I already had one at home somewhere, though I wasn't sure about which trucks in the series I had, so I picked them up anyways. There were a number of the Indy racers there as well, but I didn't really want to get more of them.

Thanks everyone!

Great finds for sure, Doug. I love each one of them, however the Convoy Kenworth two-pack is my favorite. Thanks for sharing your new haul again!
