Think Ford could ever be convinced to repurpose the Mustang platform into a sedan? A neo-Ford Falcon or revival of the Lincoln LS would give them a car that fits into that niche, and give them something to compete with GM's ATS, CTS and Chevrolet SS sedans. |

I've said for years what Ford needs to do is invest in a true replacement for the Falcon, and use the platform to give us all of the following: Falcon/Taurus*/Interceptor Ute/Ranchero Thunderbird If they can make all of the above on the Mustang's platform, even better. That way you still have "One Ford" but with products that would appeal to more people around the world. The Fusion's capable of carrying the FWD flame around the world (it's already the Mondeo in Europe, I say rename it Taurus here, drop the Fusion name, and then bring the Falcon here as a full-size). *If not, then the next generation Taurus could be the Falcon's rebadge here in the USA. There's a need for a car-based pickup that's not being served. Until the Ranger comes back there's no compact pickup, and really the people who buy utes aren't the same people who buy compact pickups (and vice versa). And you can't tell me there isn't a market for a full-sized luxury coupe. When they brought it back in 2002 Ford tried too hard to make it a sports car and it ended up an overpriced sales disaster. It doesn't need to be sporty (that's what the Mustang is for after all) but it does need to have style and luxury. |

It's a shame but all the others are going as well. I have a buddy who loves Holdens and I think they are next to close. Always liked the Falcon, well mainly because it became the Mustang. Ford has toyed with 4-door Mustangs since it was born. I do think a 4-door could work using the current platform. Ford might have to stretch the chassie a bit. |

I believe Holden will end production next year with the end of the Commodore. I always thought the Falcon would be a good sell here but again look at the dismal sales of the Holden Pontiacs. |
