I had found and purchased a 67 Ford Fairlane for cheap. I owned it for a short while back in 72 or 73. It was kinda neglected when I bought it. Here's the catch, the guy I bought it from didn't know much about the car except he could never get it to run right. He said it was a 390 with a ragged 4 bbl carb. He also said it was starving for gas. After I bought it and took it home, he called 2 days later and said he found more spare engine parts. I went back and was shocked to see he had found a factory Ford dual 4 manifold with the old FoMoCo carbs still on it. A huge oval air cleaner to go with it. I put it on the engine and had my uncle help me tweak it up. That sucka fired right up and screamed. It definitely wasn't starving for gas now and it was really a 427... I was young and and didn't know much at all about the big blocks, and quickly became scared of that car. I sold it to my uncle and his partner who painted it red, white, and blue and raced it. The car ran high 11s in the day with slicks, huge header tubes, and a gear. That was fast back then. My uncle missed 2nd gear on a run and blew the engine into many tiny pieces. We didn't have the cash to build another one!!! I love all these old Fords from 60 up to 67 Galaxies, the 63, 64, 66, & 67 Fairlanes, and the 63 & 64 Falcons. I always wanted to find and slap one of those old 427s in a little Falcon... That would have been a wild ride...LOL ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These old Fords were sure designed and built with pride, style, chrome, and grace. Even the 4 doors looked good. I would like to see GL, JL, or AW do a 67 Galaxie 2 door, and a 64 Falcon coupe... |

As a nutty gear~head and true auto enthusiast I could never say which year, style, make, or model of automobile is my favorite. I have always said the 57 Ford Fairlane was my all~time fav, but due to the movie Thunder Road at such a young age. I have never owned a performance Chevy, but knew several friends who did and I had a total respect for them. I have owned a few Mopar 340s and know those are race engines in disguise. I have owned and built several strong running Mustangs that were quickly well known around town. Chevys seemed to be less expensive to build, then the Fords, and Mopar parts were off the hook for me. Chevy parts were always more plentiful also. They were all great cars, but every make had it's lemons. As far back as I can remember there was something that caught my eye and I liked about them all. How can anyone say which is their fav???... I sure can't!!! How could I forget the 56 and the 64 Thunderbolt!!! DAHHHHH! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Stangfreak, Oct 12 2016, 11:57 PM.

Those are my thoughts as well. Never owned a Chevy or Cadillac, the one Mercury I had must have been a tired old lemon, never had a Lincoln...but I've had Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Olds, Pontiac, Buick, Toyota, Daewoo and Nissan....all of them had their plusses and minuses. Most were simple, pedestrian appliances, but they got the job done and did all I asked of them, at least until they couldn't anymore. |
