Fun stuff i get to work on

I've been a professional mechanic for 35 years. I specialize in mostly undercar repair, mainly wheel alignments. Most cars I work on are mostly ho hum daily drivers but occasionally I get to work on some interesting vehicles. The equipment I use is some of the best and not all shops have the capability to align all the vehicles out there so I get a lot of stuff other shops can't handle. I started taking some pics when the new phones made it easy and thought I'd share some here. I'll add some more as I go thru my pics and whenever something interesting comes in.

I'll start with this older Porsche....

Big Buick in great shape...

This is about as ho hum as it gets but was a low miles all original car. Very strange to see it still on the road.

What is the little blue sedan?

And you're not kidding about a lot of shops not having the capability to do wheel alignments. I know of just one in a 50 mile radius and it is very difficult to get an appointment.

Cool stuff. Having a variety of different vehicles coming through I'm sure helps keep things interesting.

Daihatsu Charade.

For me, that's the most interesting, instead of ho-hum. Sure, in its day it was ho-hum, but after all these years, that's the one I most enjoyed seeing!!

This entire thread was fun to go through. Thanks for the pics!

Both my Mustangs need front end alignments but I'm thinking that's a far drive. For sure a good thing you love your job. I love mine and it makes going to work everyday easy.

It's all fun 'til you gotta mount 4 tires (6 on duallies) on an F-350! Those make for a long day!
The test drives are the funnest!

The Daihatsu only had 73,000 on it. Inside and out was like new.

This is some of the scary stuff I see. Both rear tires were bald and coming apart at the bead on an E-350 work van fully loaded with a lift gate on the back. He just came in for an oil change and didn't want new tires! This happens a lot more than you think. I would hate to be riding next to him on the interstate.

I tried to sell this guy some new brakes.

An unmolested RX-7 ant SRT-4? Rarest ones you've posted yet, even against the Daihatsu. :P

Yay, 'just rolled into the shop' type entries. Is that leak stop oozing out of the truck tire?

Not oozing out....think Grand Canyon....that's a crack on the inside of the tire.

I'm really confused by the wheel on that Panamera. It has both the thumb push/pull shifters built into the steering wheel itself AND the paddle shifters on the separate stalks behind the wheel.

Oh yeah, two more things. Thanks for the pics Gun! I enjoy seeing variety like that. And second, why did the people with the bald tires or bad brakes even bother with an alignment in the first place. If you're that unconcerned about proper maintenance and safety, why even bother paying for an alignment?

I have to admit, some of the new cars are intimidating to operate. I work on a lot of high end cars with everything electronic controlled. The shifters , parking brakes, auto steering and braking, steering assisted parking, electronic suspensions, etc. I still turn wrenches but also use the computer now to program the vehicles. It's hard to stay up to date on every make of vehicle.

I still like working on the older stuff too...

I don't just do alignments. The van was getting an oil change. But you are correct, some people are set in what they want done to their cars...no matter my advice. Why worry about making it go if you can't stop!

I take it your state doesn't have vehicle inspections or that van is passing due to the owner taking to a shady inspection station. My state doesn't do vehicle inspection anyone. Missouri still does, but it's kind of a joke with all the shady little certified inspection stations.

That's just what I was about to say! I enjoy seeing old everyday cars in good condition on the roads. Some of those are still seen here too, though that was never a big seller here.

(Love the ORIGINAL RX-7 too)

Nice selection of vehicles!

Wow, those bold tires. In my little corner of the world, If you are caught with tires like this one on your car, police orders you to park your car immediately, then they remove the license plates on the spot and you will not get them back until you purchased new tires.

They are the targets that the cameras of the aligner "read" to compute the angles of the wheels. We do have yearly state inspections here in VA that are overseen by the state police. But we also have other laws that get broken as well!

F-350 Super Duty dually with utility bed. This is about as big as I can get on my rack.

Lifted Chevy diesel...the wrong way!

The torsion bars are turned all the way up maxing out the suspension. Better to look cool than ride good. Kids either slam 'em down or raise them up pushing the suspension to the limits. There is a right way to do both.

These came off a Jeep Liberty....the alignment was way out.

Don't see many of these....

well the only time a car in Nebraska gets inspected is if you get a vehicle from another state at the DMV
years ago NE had that kind of thing but it was phased out due to costs

So thats why you sees a mountain of old cars still running around here ^_^

now the Nebraska State Patrol will do surprise inspections at checkpoints but thats a RARE thing
Happened to me once
I passed :P
