Been having some fun on another board naming cars in pictures, and Toyotageek suggested we start a thread for these games. And with that, the inaugural kick off of the "How many can you name?" thread! No prizes, just bragging rights.

Pretty sad, this old dog cannot name a single car in that lot. I see door-stops, a brick, a book, a silver car, (ScoobyDoo) aren't they all silver? An suv, a sport suv, an suv crossover, a mini SUV, an SUV lite, an electro SUV. This whole SUV thing SUX...for me.

It's depressing how little color there is in that picture. The fact that appears to be a picture taken in Japan probably means that only a handful of people will have much luck.

I see a Toyota Altezza (Lexus IS300) smack dab in the middle, so all the rest in the picture are irrelevant as that's the only one I'd want. I see a Toyota Crown, a Toyota Harrier, two Subaru Legacy's, the aforementioned green Mazda 2, a Mercedes E class, a Toyota Prius, and a few others I know I know if I focused hard enough to jog my memory, but I can't remember right now being cars they don't offer here in the US. Definitely a few I have no clue on though. Edited by 250 TR, Dec 2 2016, 07:22 PM.

You got better eyes than I do. I spotted the Altezza, the green Demio/2 and the E Class and nothing else. |

These are always fun to see how well...or how poorly we do. One of the on-line emails I get from Hemmings Classic Cars has a daily picture where one can identify the cars - most are from the US but every so often they run pictures from Europe or recently one from Australia. Like others I do well with the older cars but not so good with the current stuff. I agree though - what happened to the days of cars in many colors - I am still restricted with my driving but the other day we used my van and my wife had trouble finding it among the sea of grey vans (I keep telling her we need to put some red pinstripes on it. )

That's the main reason I've been putting stickers on my car. There's still way too many '96-00 Civics and ELs (basically a Canadian market Civic/Domani sedan that replaced the Integra sedan here, but not in the rest of the world). ELs are less common, but how often is it that all you can see is the roof of your car? Now it's easy, it's the one with the hearts on the C-pillars. |

Thanks, I needed that, although it's good I already set my coffee down before I saw it!My reasoning for posting this image of a Tokyo parking lot is all the feedback from the JDM guys about never showing them any respect, so I gave them a JDM puzzle to solve. Looks like on the whole they didn't fare much better than the restuvus. ![]() I didn't even notice the Mercedes behind the silver car, and I sure couldn't name any of the rest, although I do see what I think is a toaster that Swifty named Diedra. |

OK, for a bit of a challenge, an Indian parking lot: And for those of us who are "challenged" (like me), something a little more mundane: ![]() Found a special one just for Hoss and Air...no SUVs and nothing newer than 1975: ![]() Figure I better lob an easy one in here too....

Wow, an entire junk yard full of Camaro's! Don't show Jack, he might need a Mustang fix after that. I confess I am completely stumped on the Indian parking lot. I can't name a single one. |

The Quest Continues

I see a Toyota Yaris hatchback and a dark Mercedes sedan, but sadly, the rest look like generic jelly beans to me. edit: oops I just scrolled up and see the "winners" were already announced. Amazing that some are able to i.d. those cars. Fun thread. Edited by atombaum, Dec 3 2016, 08:54 AM.

That whitish-gray toaster with the four doors near the center, looks sooooo stylish compared to the others. Especially the red one. A non-compliant conservative must drive that one. |

Well I'd say the thing is that even a lot of people that are enthusiasts of cars from a certain other region probably only know a certain slice of cars. JDM lovers who aren't in Japan are more likely to know sporty cars, ones that get drifted, or perhaps they know certain popular kei cars, but not everyday drivers. Likewise someone outside the US might know our muscle cars and such, but likewise have no idea when it comes to regular daily driver stuff. If you showed me an older Russian parking lot, I might be lucky and pick out a Trabant or a Lada, but otherwise I might just think it's vaguely "eastern European" without any description. |
