The Quest Continues

Figure 1. June 2, 1978. My first car. 1968 Oldsmobile "Delmont" 88 convertible with the "Rocket" (455 cu. in.) engine. The name Delmont may have been a trim level thing. Note the basic hubcaps. The 455 was a nice engine. Gas was $0.68/gallon.

Figure 2. September 1978. My buddy's 1956 Olds 88 two-door hardtop. Note spray paint restoration. Solid, good running, well used, and had classic status - even in 1978. This car would have been 22 years old at the time. Today if it's still out there, it would be 60. Few - if any - cars of this vintage were used/seen at that time. Most had succumbed to rust.

Figure 3. The '56 again (note paint) with my 1968 Delmont 88 ahead of it in the drive. Also shown is my white 1968 Delta 88 two-door hardtop with a Rocket 350 (I believe) that I purchased for parts from a girl in my high school grade. It was complete and running, and I don't recall taking too many parts from it. It's condition was fair but rusty, but that meant more fun. It's amazing my parents let me get the parts car and park it in the driveway. Especially since my dad was a Ford man. :o
