The movie cars GL is producing in their Hollywood series are not cars featured in the movies, like Vanishing Point, or Dirty Mary~Crazy Larry or even Smokey and the Bandit. Or even well known star cars like the Batmobile, or the Monkey Mobile, or Munsters Coach. Most are cars that may make brief appearances in the movie or seen with the star of the movie behind the wheel for a brief moment. To me these aren't movie cars, but no more than a car sitting in the background of a scene as props. The one the released that was a real movie car that confused me was this one: ![]() Why was this released in the GL Muscle series? I don't believe this was a standard Charger released by Dodge with that 440 stripe. I never seen another one. We all knew this was the Dirty Mary~Crazy Larry car. I am so very sorry to say this, but I think GL is reaching with the Hollywood series. They use any casting they have to capitalize on collectors. When did Forrest Gump drive a VW Beetle? ![]() He didn't... A hippie was seen in this VW for all of 3 seconds max, asking "Who want's to go to San Francisco?" How is this a movie/star car? It isn't in my book. GL's Hollywood series will never come close to JL's Hollywood star car series and it's very disappointing to me!!! How is this related to movies, except for the Trans AM with the wrong wheels? I never seen that car in a trailer being towed by a pickup!!! ![]() I do have to say here, GL did a fantastic job on this one. This is a real movie/star car!!! ![]() |

I bought that Charger two years ago thinking it was a rare factory stripe. After I found out it wasn't, I removed it an switched the wheels to M2 dog dishes. Some day I'll take a photo and post it. |

Have you forgotten about all of the great cars that GL has put out for The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Supernatural? Or are you not including tv shows? That'd be a shame, seeing as how GL has gone so far as to model TWO motorhomes from the first two series. If not, you've forgotten about all of the Blues Brothers cars plus Joe Dirt. Never mind the fact that this year we're getting the motorhome from National Lampoon's Christmas, the Mad Max Falcon Interceptor, and the Continental from The Matrix. |

No Jordan... Not at all... They have done some good ones in the past no doubt, but what they have focused on now and the way they're heading is what I am talking about... Just because a car is seen for a few minutes or a few times in a show, be it a movie or a TV show, don't make it a Hollywood car!!! The Grizwald's cars and the Mad Max Falcon will be fine Hollywood cars because they are Hollywood cars and well known and that's what I would love to see more of. They do an outstanding job on the good ones they do. Many of the other stuff lately are cars that were only seen briefly Do you remember how Racing Champions went stupid crazy with the "Fast and Furious series? They put different paint jobs on every casting over and over and created cars that never existed. Basically, if a car is used in a whole movie all the way or on a TV series more than a few episodes, go for it... carhauler says it best in one of his replys.. Sadly, GL has gone off in new, different directions from the days when these were made. I think the early GLs were much better detailed than today's releases. That said, it looks like their change in focus has been successful for them and they continue to pursue trailers and movie cars. Take the car from the package and see who recognizes as a TV or movie car??? How many would you??? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I strongly believe that's why this Hollywood set never sold...

Let Greenlight take this 71 Challenger, make it into a 70, scrap the spoiler and make it a plain white R/T and I would bet my life they could not make enough or fast enough to keep up with demand... ![]() They could even release it in the Muscle series to escape licensing issues...

You hit the reason right there in your last post. Licensing issues. The Dirt Mary car, I'm sure they didn't have the license for to release it in their Hollywood line, so they put it in another line instead. They are doing the same with the next Muscle series, all are from Fast & Furious just unofficially. And the Jurassic Park Jeep. As for what actually gets put out in the Hollywood line, I don't think you're giving them enough credit. Sure, some are briefly seen cars, but others I instantly recognize. I loved Lost, and every single car they did from that show is recognizable. The Field of Dreams Jeep and VW Bus, I also see them and instantly think of the film. Not every car can be a Batmobile or BTTF Delorean if they want to keep the line fresh with multiple releases. But they have enough that is recognizable, and I give them huge credit for being the only American diecast company with multiple product lines all getting numerous releases every year. M2 comes close, but Greenlight releases more product than any other brand and this is a good thing. Edited by 250 TR, Jan 9 2017, 02:59 AM.

It is strange that many of the cars in the series you have to really think where you have seen it. I love the red Foxbody Mustang from Ghost. I have seen the movie years ago, but don't remember the car from it at all. All I remember is that the movie is iconic from a couple doing pottery. CSI Charger is nice and seen in the series too, but it is just a grey Charger, which won't be linked to CSI if taken out of the package. Same goes with the Clueless Jeep - A crucial part of the movie, but it is just a white Jeep without the package. I have not seen Dallas TV Series, but I did some digging regarding to the toothpaste blue pickup when I got one - appears that has been in one episode and wasn't a Chevy. So IMO the licensing does not bring ANY additional value to the car, except for Dallas fans/collectors. Love the car though. On the other hand, f.e. Fleetwood Bounder from Breaking Bad is very recognisable and you think of the series when you see it. In my opinion Hot Wheels has done a better job choosing more recognisable cars from movies and TV I had seen the Anchorman News Van in both GL and HW's lineup. When I saw the movie a couple months back, I noticed that the car appeared in background in one scene only, and was not even fully seen so you can't tell whether it was a Dodge or a Chevy, or even an Econolpne. But probably the license has been cheap and both makers had a suitable van casting already. |

If GL wants to make 20 new variations of a casting that pleases my eye, I will buy them. Half the time I don't recognize TV shows and movies because the Hollywood cars and stars asren't familiar to me. Same with releases of fantasy race teams and cars that were never real. If it is a variant of something I like, I get it. |

Same here. If the movie car casting itself interests me I'll buy it. The fact that it's movie related is just a bonus to me. Much like the Jurassic Park Wrangler. I love the GL Wrangler casting. I'm on a mission to collect all the GL Wranglers. The Wrangler in question being tied into JP was just a bonus. Albeit a huge bonus in this case because the JP franchise was such a huge part of my childhood. |

It doesn't even have to be a variant to me, just if the casting is interesting I'll get it. At least here in Europe the Hollywood Series cars seem to be the easiest to find. For example the CSI Charger is the only one I have of that casting, and I would have bought ANY version of it. Same applies to the Dallas pickup, Ghost Mustang and Joe Dirt Firebird. I only needed one of each casting and those were the ones that were available. |

It might be a bit annoying, but I can also understand it from the business perspective - a truly unique casting (like the Lampoon Truckster) has limits on how many times it can be reused; let's face it, only so many people actually want the Truckster or The Mad Max Falcon, their popularity is limited. A common car like a Beetle or a Mustang can be easily re-used and is more cost efficient. In order to justify the costs of creating those more unique castings, they have to trot out some of the easily reusable others, even if they only have marginal movie connections. (Greenlight, this is why you need to do new castings of old police cruisers! Reuse potential galore!) In my case, if I like the casting, I buy it. I didn't even realize the Hollywood Series red Mustang was in Ghost at first. But I really liked the casting and color choice, so I bought it anyway, Edited by the_weatherman, Jan 10 2017, 12:12 AM.

Each and every comment you all made make good sense and I agree with all... I just wish GL would clean up the Hollywood series and release some of those cars in other series. The Forrest Gump Beetle could be a PIP type car or something like that. It goes the same for me as well, If I like the casting, I buy it no matter what the package or series says. I don't mean to come down on GL at all but also don't like the feeling of being reeled in... The Ghost Fox Stang belonged to the guy (Tony Goldwyn-Carl) who had Patrick Swayze's character (Sam Wheat) murdered, and is seen briefly in a night scene. I liked the casting and bought it, but not for my movie car collection... Edited by Stangfreak, Jan 10 2017, 08:53 AM.

I agree with ya here about 99.99999% and for the most part here, and I do give a great deal of credit for some highly detailed, and quality diecast. But compared to the JL Hollywood series, they run a close 2nd. I believe GL does a fantastic job on everything they release. Some of the cars in their Hollywood series are nothing more than prop cars. Same as a sword, hat, or a chair a star may be briefly seen with or in in a movie or TV show. I can name more cars in their Hollywood series that are unrecoginizable out of the package than are recognizable. Here's two cars by JL that were used briefly in movies, but not released as Hollywood cars. ![]() ![]() ![]() GL released the same Mustang as a Hollywood car in this set... ![]() I just don't consider these cars as Hollywood/Star cars... JL also made some disappointing boo~boos such as Uncle Jessie's pickup from the Dukes of Hazard series. They released a Chevy pickup when it was a Ford in every episode... ![]() ![]() If they went as far to hook up with licensing issues here, why didn't they make the main or rest of the cars in the movie? ![]() ![]() Now that they have the right year Chevelle casting, why don't they do this series again? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That primer gray Duster would be a hot seller.. http://coolridesonline.net/news-blog/news-entertainment/three-coolest-cars-from-the-movie-dazed-and-confused/ ![]() ![]() They already have several castings that could be more of a Hollywood car than what they have... A Cobra from Bad Boys... ![]() ![]() A Porsche from Doc Hollywood, they have the casting in the Motor World series... ![]() I guess what I am trying to say is, I have an extreme amount of admiration for GL and everything I have of theirs. It kinda bothers me a bit to see the Hollywood series beginning to go the wrong way. I feel there is so many other ways they could be much more productive and profitable. I'm not real familiar with the license junk, but I am a pure 100% all American, red blooded, full time "COUCH POTATO" and have seen many, many, many movies and TV shows, and most many more times than once. I do know what cars for a true Hollywood series would be well known and sell faster than they could make them. I would lobe to see GL prosper and grow big time and there is so much they could do with this series!!! Edited by Stangfreak, Jan 10 2017, 10:41 AM.

I did not know they had done THIS one. I have to get one, Two Lane Blacktop is in my opinion the best car-related movie ever. And that car sure has a big part of it. I wonder if they had done the ol' Chevy from the movie too? |

Like I said, GL has some of the most outstanding castings out there and I would love to see them grow and prosper to the max in the coming years. They could take this Hollywood series straight to the top if they would put a "COUCH POTATO" like me in charge...LOL They have several castings to do so much with already. One that comes to mind is Doc Hollywood with Michael J. Fox. The Porsche wasn't the focus in the movie, but played a huge part of it. They have the casting, so, make the Hollywood car!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() GLs casting...
