I was going through some of my old photos on Flickr and thought this might be fun.... I'l try to post a picture, or pictures, each day of various cars that I've seen and photographed in Japan. Some are in the wild, and some are in museums or other collections, but all are "as seen in Japan." I probably don't even remember what half of them are, so part of this will be for you to have fun guessing... ![]() DSC00012 by Michael Foertsch, on Flickr Let's begin! Hop on in! We'll start our journey with this Toyota Origin... Oh, that car next to it, don't mind it, it's just a Celica from Okinawa (which explains why it's LHD). Both cars belong to a car collecting family in Gunma. ![]() Toyota Origin by Michael Foertsch, on Flickr Please feel free to comment and contribute! Edited by toyotageek, Jan 11 2017, 10:55 PM.

*settles in with popcorn* Looking back at my pictures from Japan, I hardly have any vehicles. A few more bikes, but mostly scenery and architecture. |

I was mostly looking for video game stuff when I went. I did look at diecast stuff but it was pretty pricey and didn't buy any. Granted I was in a touristy area at the time. Anyway, sorry for diversion. |

I have my fair share of those photos too!
Just over 1000 produced. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Origin
That could get me in trouble...
Oh, I do that too.
Quite all right!

Okay, so let's start at a museum. TAM - the Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagoya. http://www.toyota.co.jp/Museum/english/ ![]() TAM has cars from all over the world, but every time I've been there I think I've only spent 5 or 10 minutes in the non-Japanese section. Is the reason for the Toyodas to be replicas, that there's not enough originals for the museum? |

According to Toyota, there were no original survivors that they knew of, so every AA you see is a replica built in the same manner as the originals (from the original plans). That is until a possible original was discovered in Russia, and now resides in the Louwman Museum - http://www.louwmanmuseum.nl/Ontdekken/Ontdek-de-collectie/toyoda-aa Ever since the discovery of this car I've been curious as to why Toyota did not acquire it for themselves. At the time I was in contact with a fellow in Russia that had connections with the discovered car, and the Russians were actively trying to get Toyota interested in it, but nothing ever came of it, thus it went to the Louwman Museum. |

Sorry for my absence on the thread... planned on posting a picture a day, but I keep forgetting. So, I'll post a bunch now. I may have to come back with ID info, as I don't have all of them labeled... so bear with me.... and sorry for the quality of the photos. I think I was using a new digital camera at the time and still learning how to use it. Remember, these are all the the Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagoya Japan. And they are all Toyotas. Thank you Michael - I really enjoy seeing the pictures of the vintage Toyopet/Toyota's. Still remember the old Toyopet that sat across from the gas station I worked at in the mid '70's near Fairchild Air Force Base, WA - always assumed it had found its way to the US via one of the airmen who had been stationed at the base.

Love these pix! Shows the rather quick evolution of the motorcar in Japan. By chance, was the Toyoda AA inspired by the Chrysler Airflow? |

Yes, there were quite a few cars that came back with service men, many from Okinawa (which is why many are LHD vs RHD). Seems my window has closed for me to edit my post... I wanted to add names to all the cars.
