The TAM is an excellent world class automotive museum, and has much more than just Japanese cars, but I am embarrassed to say I've never taken the time to check out the other collections... Check out their website in English - http://www.toyota.co.jp/Museum/english/ I'm going through all my photos from Japan chronologically. These photos were all from my first trip back in 2005. We'll visit the museum and these cars again. |

So much good stuff. Some of those 60s cars look sky high and ready for offroad though.

Yeah, most of the cars were on jack stands.... which does make some of them seem kind of jacked up!

Thank's for those wonderful Toyota Pics. We had in our family in the late 60ies and in the 70ies various Toyota models like a Crown 2000,some Corolla's 1200, Mark II, Celica's, other Corolla's, my first car was one of the first Toyota Starlet's and my heart always beats for those old Toyoda's.

Ah yeah, On the one hand I understand so they don't have to keep airing the tires or make funky spots. On the other, it makes the cars not 'look right'. |

Aside from the usual issues with people wrecking and discarding them, everybody's rust protection was awful in the 70s. All the unibody vehicles where water would get trapped in nooks and crannies that didn't get protected properly. |

Oh yeah, I definitely knew what it was. It's one of my favorite Toyota's, right after the 2000 GT and Supra. I was just making light of the fact that it's very close to Toyotageek's car. |

Every time I see your Celica, it puts a smile on my face. It's such a beautiful car, and I'd love to see Hot Wheels make a Liftback. Also, what is the red sunroof car next to your Celica in the picture above? I want to say it's a Celica, too, but I'm not sure.

Red car is also a Celica, but it's a coupe (like the green one in front, but only a later year). Don't recall the story behind it, but the sunroof and rear spoiler are aftermarket. |

Can't answer for Michael, but that will always be the one that draws me! Only one year, color and fender mount mirrors away from my first car. |

Haven't forgotten this thread, even if it appears I've been neglecting it. I'll try to be a better host, and will attempt to get back on schedule and post photos more regularly. Now that we've seen inside of the Toyota Automobile Museum, let's take a quick look at the outside before we head over to the Annex which is right next door. ![]() Over in the Annex they had cars and trucks that illustrated the history of vehicles in Japan. There were more than Toyotas exhibited, but at that time I was totally focused on Toyota only, so I didn't bother taking pictures of the other cars. A final photo from TAM before we leave... Kiichiro Toyoda - "... Japanese entrepreneur and the son of Toyoda Loom Works founder Sakichi Toyoda. His decision to take Toyoda Loom Works into automobile manufacturing would create what would eventually become Toyota Motor Corporation, the largest automobile manufacturer in the world." ![]() My first trip to Japan was back in 2005 - that's when all the photos above, and here, were taken. I lost a lot of photos during that trip when I wiped out my cameras memory by mistake. At this point in time I was mostly interested in Toyota cars, so visiting Nagoya and Toyota City were like a pilgrimage for me. Toyota has several 'museums' in the Nagoya area, since that's where their headquarters are located. Before Toyota made cars, they made textile looms. Next stop is the TOYOTA Commemorative Museum of Industry & Technology - Toyota history from textile looms to automobiles - LINK > http://www.tcmit.org/english/ English PDF guide - http://www.tcmit.org/wp-content/uploads/leaflet_03en1.pdf There is an entire area devoted to the loom industry. The automotive area illustrates vehicle production. ![]() Simulated production process of the Toyoda Model AA ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Toyoda Truck G1 Model ![]() Toyoace truck ![]() Toyopet Crown 1955 ![]() Toyopet Corona Model RT40 ![]() Toyota PM A single seat concept vehicle built by Toyota around the idea of personal mobility. Multiple vehicles can communicate with each other to encourage "meeting, linking and hanging out together". It was shown at the October 2003 Tokyo Motor Show.
