Picked this last week at the flea market, and was curious that the model seems basically the same issue as the original mainline release back some years ago, but mine is packed away so I cannot compare.
Anybody know if there are differences in them other than the packaging, which is kind of cool looking in this issue. Thanks!

First to mind is the wheels and I believe the Retros had more tampos on the rack. I think its the mainline in a fancy package . Nice card art

Here is the original mainline issue. I think it is the same - just a nicer package as it goes in pursuit of Slimer! I may have to find one of these packages to send to granddaughter Katie since her latest cool thing is the Ghostbusters! :)

By looks but lightning flash settings can play tricks to what is captured but yours does look a lot lighter blue tint Windows, I just pulled out many different mixed assortment case letters and they HAVE A VERY DARK BLUE tint

IS yours THAILAND ? If so that could be one Shuttle difference

___ possible the whites could be different too

I know I want it/ them digg the card artwork

What is the other cars from that set series sub series

Now WHO YOU GONNA CALL ??

THANKX FOR THE IMAGE CAPTURE PHOTO SHOT ,

Thanks guys!

Col'pop, not sure of the others in the series, those I'd seen some of at the store, but none that I was interested in, of course I hadn't seen this one in the store, so I resorted to getting it from the flea market, which I usually wont do for something current, but I found nothing else at the market all morning.

I saw every one of the series EXCEPT this one. Still wondering if this one--the only one that seems to have anything to do with the movies--was not included in the same case as the other seven (which, if I remember correctly, were just other generic/fake cars/trucks from the HW fantasy lines that not only were not in any of the movies, but were not even possible to be in movies because there are no 1:1 of those vehicles. They're figments of the designers' imaginations...and thanks to a Sears online advertisement here's the list of the "cars" in the series/set:
2016 Hot Wheels Exclusive Ghostbusters 8 Car Set *#1 Drift Tech , #2 Bread Box , #3 Battle Spec , #4 Spectyte *#5 Audacious , #6 Phastasm , #7 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 , #8 Power Rocket.) (So, have you ever seen any of the other seven "cars" driving on your city streets? In the movies? I think not.) That said, if I were to collect these, it would ONLY be for the card art.....it is pretty cool.

That's my biggest complaint about Hot Wheels in general.....they take existing mainline fantasy vehicles (I have nothing against inventing vehicles for toys....but...) and repackage them in pretty blisters and expect collectors will go batty over them. Sure they have "new" graphics, and that's all well-and-good, but they make NO effort to simulate cars that were actually ON SCREEN or in the story. That's just my humble opinion. I'm not dissing the Hot Wheels design team, I'm dissing the endless recycling of unrealistic cars in "themes" that seem inappropriate--like the "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" sets.....did any of the characters in any of those movies drive cars, let alone the ones Hot Wheels sells as "movie-themed" cars?

Of course, HW has figured out that they can sell things that have nothing to do with the 'theme' simply by painting them differently than the "mainline" release that came out a month or two previously. More power to them. (At least they didn't place a higher retail price on them than the mainline "regular" issues....but they've been known to do that, too.)

Caveat: Yes, I collect 'variations' that are simply changes in tampo-passes and art/color, etc. But "sets" that have nothing to do with a theme except card art make little sense to me, and I am not a consumer of them.

I have seen the series in one of my short wanderings at Wally looking for Christmas gifts. When granddaughter Katie was here I asked her if those were some Ghostbusters cars she wanted and she said NO. She only wanted the ECTO 1's. :D Her comment, as a 7 year old, those other cars have nothing to do with Ghostbusters - she had seen them when she had gone Christmas shopping for me and wanted to get grandpa some little cars and decided even grandpa wouldn't want them. She, too, was disappointed that she could not find the Cadillac ECTO-1.

Can anyone post comparison (side by side preferred) photos of this "mainline" issue and the current "Entertainment" issue I'm finding in Walmarts around town? The "Entertainment" release of course costs $3.97 or up to $4.99 depending on where you find it, and I suspect it's the same model, maybe exactly, as the elusive one from this "Ghostbusters" mainline series.

It's one of my biggest 'beefs' about marketing and mass-production.....are we being scammed? Is the "Entertainment" series just making us pay for more packaging for a $1 model? Even if that's not the case, is the difference between the two 'versions' worth $3-$4 MORE for the "premium" "Entertainment" line?

Thank you all....I see how many variations there are, not to mention the JL ones (I think I have one of those somewhere). Looks like the Entertainment series they made sure to highlight differences between them. I know I have a few of these....including the Ecto-1 and 2 (motorcycle set), which I bought at TRU when I first saw it, only to find it in other stores a month or two later for a few dollars less. Oh, well.....

I've got the latest HW with the nice card art. I didn't open it, because on this rare occasion I actually felt the card artwork was as good as or better than the actual model...
