1970's 300 Series - Two Packs

Majorettes 300 Series were much like the Matchbox Two Packs, although it would seem the Majorette idea and series was available before the Matchbox. Like Matchbox Majo offered most with vehicles from the regular series towing special trailers, and then the smaller tractor trailer trucks at probably 1/100 scale. Majorette also included in the series, although maybe later, a helicopter, buses, and Limousines.

The red and black (multicolor) blisters were purchased in the first or second year of my collecting, they were from another collector in a small mail-in club I belonged to that sent a newsletter every month. They were acquired at an unbelievable price of less than $3 each, which I believe the guy selling them was just looking to get the then current price of what new sets in the stores might costs. Best I can estimate was that these were from the first half of the 1970's.

The other blister cards were acquired at shows or flea markets over the years.

I have many 300 series sets that I'll try to share in time, one or two sets maybe older than these, and some of the older tractor trailers, along with a number of more modern issues. Whenever I can get around to doing photos.

These two loose sets below were also in the red and black blisters, and since I'd freed them at some point in the past, I'd have to believe the bubbles broke loose of the cards, but no worries I know I still have them.

Support your local demo derby.

That's a tremendous set of Majorette models. The tractor with 'real' log is a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing all the pics!!!

:toy: I don't recall ever seeing the first blister cards you showed - those are colorful and do go back to the days with the Bernard trucks. When I see the other older two packs it takes me back to the year or so I lived in St. Paul in the late '70's. In those days had no trouble finding Majorette models in a number of stores - both the single issues and the two packs. Majorette offered a lot of neat trailers and trucks in those sets.

Those are all great. I cannot remember that in my area those blister packs were available - in Germany mostly the perspex boxes and the fused hood packages were found.

The first (black & red) blisters must be around 1970/71 ..the other ones some years later - but (as you already mentioned) the first half of the 1970s.

In the mid 70s hubcaps were banned from small toy cars due to the danger of swallowing.
Thats why many of the shown models have already knobby wheels...

Amazing sets of earlier Majorette ! As already said, those models are from the beginning to mid 70s.
At that time, the young Majorette firm production was made in a small factory and only available in France and maybe some of the neighbouring countries around. Export to USA and Canada came only at the end of the 70s with the increasing production of a new bigger plant.

Thanks everyone for the comments and excellent information about these and the Majorette brand, they have been one of my favorite brands since I started collecting.

I purchased the 12 earlier sets back in about 1997 or so, so guess they were fairly old then, I only wish I would have contacted the seller a little sooner, this seems like it was the last of what he originally had, but he did mention that the owner of the club where he posted them for sale, had first chance at them, and had purchased something like 2 of every different variation the seller could find in his cases, so that cleared out quite a few of his old store stock.

Back in the 90's it seemed like you could find old Majos fairly inexpensive, except that Fury police car, they were always up there in price as I remember.

They were selling in Canada in the early '70's. I had a couple and friends also had some. I still have the blister card from one. I kept it because of the cool pictures on the back:

Interesting info, it's always improve my knowledge on my beloved brand to share with others collectors worldwide. As Majorette make was in her young years and having a small factory production, I didn't think about export in far and big countries so early.

Were you and your friends living in or near large cities or in countryside at that time ?

We were in the countryside, north of Toronto. I had two versions of the Citroën SM with road signs and pylons. One SM was fluorescent orange and the other was fluorescent pink. They had black stripes on the hoods.

North of the Capital Toronto, that has a sense. And you did have the SM with traffic signals ? This ref. does cost alot of money nowadays !

Neat card Mark! I have a few of those early wheel sets shown on the back, but only one still with its original box. I'll post them when I get some time.

:toy: Sometimes it would be fun to be able to turn back the clock and go back in time to buy more of these cars. I remember = thinking it was sometime in the '80's - maybe early '90's that there was a collector, I think in Maryland, who was selling a big collection of Majorette models. I bought some but funds were limited - sure wish I could have bought more but that is the way it goes sometimes.

The back is a nice portable catalog, but are you SURE you kept it for the back, or was it more for the cute 'model' on the front? ;)

Glad you are all enjoying them, I'll try to post a thread with some older trucks tomorrow, though they don't have these cool old blister packs.

Forgot a set I had loose in a Jammers case. It was one of those I had wanted, but never thought I'd run across it, let alone at a good price, but what do you know, I found it at a train show a few years back and at a cheap price. And to top it off it even has a BP decal, and I enjoy collecting BP stuff.
