I wish we had more diecast F1 cars in the US when these came out. F1 cars were not the easiest to find back then, and if we did get them they were not very realistic. I think the best we got in North America at that time was by Tomica, but if you lived far enough North you might come across a Gusival, or the slightly more common Majorette. The Matchbox and Hot Wheels weren't even in the same ballpark.

Here is a Ferrari I bought several years ago. This is Vettel's 1:64 RB car from 2010.

They got a serious upgrade as years went on.

I remember having several Majorette F1 cars in my childhood in the late 80's/early 90's. I had (still have somewhere) a Brabham, a Ferrari, a McLaren-Honda and a Benetton, all licensed, and all different castings.

Majorette had a lot of licensed F1 racers in the 70s and even in the 80s ...but in the 90s it turns more and more towards generic.

Ferrari and Shadow are no longer named as such...

But those generic were different and new castings at that time...

In the 2000s they came back with more realistic models and even with real sponsors...

Cool pics!

Just out of curiosity - is that wing piece in some cars in the first picture same as in the Bertone Panther?

yes, it is the same piece ...so if missing on one car, can be used from a beater of the other one...

Majorette and Tomica both did some nice formula one cars. We should not forget the nice formula one cars that Polistil has offered over the years. Their Penny series had a number of F1 cars from the '60's and these were sold in the US - mostly through department stores connected with the Allied Store Chain (in the state of Washington that was the Bon Marche). Later there were the RJ series which were listed as 1/55th scale. I got most of mine from a mail order dealer in California (no longer remember the name). All have been sold and don't even have any pictures in my files to share.

I have these from my childhood. The one on the left is newer than the others and is AFAIK non-licensed. The other four (Ferrari, Brabham, McLaren, Benetton) are from late 80's/early 90's and were raced a lot. Surprisingly they still have their wings.

There are many on flea markets here, but finding one with the rear wing still in place is rare.

I just wish they had sold those pieces in most of America. Guisval also sold F1 cars that were very cool. These aren't my pictures I stole them from Brethrups site and hopefully I just spelled that right? I hardly see these on Ebay US.
