I picked up a new car yesterday afternoon! It is a 2017 Toyota iA, also known as the Scion iA. But what it really is is a rebadged Mazda 2!

Mazda is really the only lower end "mainstream" car manufacturer that I have any interest in. They're such great cars, and I was disappointed to learn that the 2 went away from the US market following a complete redesign. But you can still get one, only with a Toyota badge! I have no idea why Toyota decided to do this, but I'm glad they did.

It's a surprisingly nice and competent car for around $16k. The 1.5 liter direct-injected 4 cylinder doesn't have a lot of power, but the chassis is excellent, and the gearbox feels like it's straight out of the MX5.

I still have my trusty Volvo C70 of course, I will never sell that. Now it'll be more of a weekend cruiser, and eventually I'll be doing a real performance build for it. Exciting stuff!

Sweet stuff!!!! Love the color.....
I've owned a Mazda (1980 RWD 626) and a Toyota (1986 FWD Celica). Both were nice cars and lasted well pasted 200xxx miles when I sold them and they went on I 'm sure. That's a great price, too bad the Mustang is not near that or just under 20k, Ford would sell a lot more of them. 28k base is just too high.

Look forward to the C70 upgrades.....

Nice - I believe that this is the sedan version of the Yaris? My brother has the hatchback (2014 model year), and its a fun little car to drive. Nonetheless, a great buy, congrats on the addition!

Yeah technically it is a Yaris, but in name only.

It's definitely weird seeing that interior with nothing but Mazda parts and a big ol' Toyota logo on the steering wheel! But congratulations! I've had a Mazda 3 and a Mazda 6 before and both were exceptional cars, I rented a CX-9 for a week, took a road trip in a CX-5 and almost bought a Miata. So yeah, I'm a fan too. I haven't driven a 2, but since I have yet to drive a bad Mazda, I'm betting it's awesome too.

Woo new car smell. Cool that the color inserts on the seat are blue, not just grey. Also I see it has the right kind of shifter.

Isn't it though Ben? It appears there are a lot of interior upgrade bits available from other Mazdas. I've already ordered a leather wrapped steering wheel from a CX5 haha.

I actually had one of these as my rental when I was in Dallas recently. I was impressed with it and it stuck in my mind! Didn't hurt that every other car in this price range is absolute garbage lol.

I work for a Toyota dealer, and my wife works at Mazda... so you've made both of us happy!

Cool! I have been a Mazda driver for my whole life and don't have much bad things to say about them.

Intereting that they did rebadge it as a Toyota. Here we have only the Mazda 2 as a hatchback.

I have a good bit of wheel time in a Fiesta, and I prefer this car! That was the only other car I had any real interest in buying, but I couldn't find a manual one to save my life!! That, and I just couldn't bring myself to own a Ford :D

Congrats on the new car! I have a Mazda 2 Sport Hatchback, extremely fun car, definitely the best option price and driving experience wise, no wonder it's often used at autox courses!

Which is why you buy an ST, only 1 transmission option!

True that! I just couldn't stretch the budget far enough for a new ST. This car weighs so little though, just 2,380 pounds! So a small tune up to 130hp or so will make it quite quick I'm guessing.

Deals are out there if you are patient. I never thought I could afford one either, but with incentives and dealer discounts I paid about the same as your iA.
