Today's Car Of The Day is Tomica's 2016 Honda Civic Type R.

Wikipedia

The Honda Civic Type R is the highest performance version of the Honda Civic made by Honda Motor Company of Japan. It features a lightened and stiffened body, specially tuned engine and upgraded brakes and chassis. Red is also used in the interior to give it a special sporting distinction and to separate it from other Honda models. In Japan, there is a one-make series of Honda Type R cars where privateers can purchase an off-road Type R and compete in a series championship which is a stepping stone for many aspiring racing drivers.

Opening hoods with engine detail is something we expect from Johnny Lightning and GreenLight, but Tomica generally prefers opening tailgates or doors.

Wikipedia

The Civic is based on an all-new Honda compact global platform.

The tenth-generation Civic features a new fastback exterior design, with the rear C-pillar flowing into the tailgate. The front of the car features a new chrome wing design that flows across the top of the headlamps.

The interior of the new Civic likewise features major design changes. Unlike the split bi-level speedometer and tachometer of its predecessor, the tenth generation Civic consolidates these instruments into a fully customisable, all digital interface incorporating a 7-inch LCD screen positioned directly behind the steering wheel and in the driver's line of sight.

Wikipedia

The Honda Civic Type R is powered by K20C1 Direct Fuel Injection 2.0-litre VTEC Turbocharged engine with Earth Dreams Technology. An R+ button is provided to increase the responsiveness of the chassis, throttle and engine for enhanced driving thrills. Maximum power is 228 kW (310 PS; 306 bhp) at 6500 RPM and maximum torque of 400 N·m (300 lb·ft) at 2500–4500 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a factory equipped plate-style limited slip differential. Honda quotes that the Type R does 0–62 mph in 5.7 second although users reached it in 5.2 seconds and produced a 1/4 mile time of 14.1s at 105.6 mph (169.9 km/h). It has a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h).

The engine is manufactured at Honda's Anna Engine Plant in Ohio before being exported to the UK.

:toy: That is indeed a bit different for Tomica to go with the opening hood and engine - possible they got the idea while JL was under their wing? This is a nice looking Honda model - more what I expect in overall look/quality than the Toyota Van that passed through here a few days ago.

Their release of the 8th gen CTR also had an opening hood. (There's two 8th gen CTRs, the UKDM 3 door hatch and the JDM sedan).

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Honda has joined the "Darth Vader" look---abstract and randomly angular. I hope this style doesn't last too long.

The casting looks well done however, and I like the opening hood feature.

Im digging this one. I think they did other Civics with opening hoods in the past, so they're probably just sticking to tradition when it comes to this car. i need to gone of these soon

I know their 3rd gen has an opening hood, and their 8th gen CTR sedan.
