Today's car of the day is Oxford Diecast's Messerschmitt KR200. Made from 1955-64. The model is made to 1/76 scale and is a current model.

This is the second time this car has been covered but last time the model was an older plastic Siku version.

Wikipedia

Messerschmitt, were temporarily not allowed to manufacture aircraft, and had turned its resources to producing other commodities. In 1952, Fend approached Messerschmitt with the idea of manufacturing small motor vehicles. These were based on his Fend Flitzer invalid carriage.
The first of Fend's vehicles to enter production at Messerschmitt's Regensburg factory was the KR175. The title Kabinenroller means "scooter with cabin".While the Messerschmitt name and insignia were used on the car, a separate company, incorporated as Regensburger Stahl- und Metallbau GmbH, was created to manufacture and market the vehicle.

This one is in a local BMW showroom. They are setting up a small museum of relevant/interesting/significant cars and kindly let me take photos.

These and the various Bubblecars of this era are what led Alec Issigonis to design a small but proper car. This being the 1959 Mini.

This is the one that Oxford used for their models. (They also make a 1/18th scale version.)

The Messerschmitt was a crude if successful design. It was powered by a 2 stroke engine of 200cc. To reverse the car the engine had to be stopped and restarted in the opposite direction. There was an urban myth, long before the term was conceived, that spare Messerschmitt cockpit canopies were used for the car. Today the cars can sell for sizeable amounts of money especially the 500cc Tiger.
They could be considered as the front end of a go-kart with the back end of a scooter all clothed in a small body.
They has a single cylinder 2 stroke engine producing 10bhp and a 4 speed sequential gearbox.

This view shows the engine cover lifted and the engine/drivetrain.

This version had minimal performance but the company built a 4 wheeled version, the Tiger, that had a 500cc twin. This, for its day, was a fast car. It had hydraulic brakes compared to the cable brakes of the KR200

Advertising poster of the time. I think they used small people to make the car look spacious, as did many others. "Limousine comfort" is, perhaps, stretching a point?

Oxford's 1/76 scale version of the car is minute. Lots of detail in it. Nothing opens but the wheels revolve and it has inner cabin detail including the white handlebars. Like many Oxford models it's a copy of a real version right down to number plates. Despite its small size it sits happily with other cars in their range.

The Matchbox Silverado pickup is made to the same scale.

Awesome! I do like the various bubble cars that are out there. Have shared before that in the early '60's my father had a Heinkel. It is neat that Oxford has this Messerschimdt in their line-up. The real ones are on the small size so fun to see the comparison with the Matchbox of the same scale. The variety of models from Oxford Diecast amazes me!

I am skeptical of the advertised "Limousine Comfort" statement.

And with the look on the face of the guy driving the real one, I suspect he may be doubting the claim, as well...

I absolutely love this model and will need to acquire one at some point.

I had the opportunity to shoot a '55 at the AACA Museum in Hershey as part of an exhibit on micro cars:
