To the fine people coming to CARnival.
I am looking for JL Homer Simpson's car. The one with all the tickets on the windshield and the dented fender. If you have one for sale or trade, come look for me. :-)

Ok. So what racing or other events are going on.
Gravity racing:

Cars (no modifications, doesn't have to be blister fresh but no graphite and no weights)
Trucks, vans, & SUVs (no modifications, doesn't have to be blister fresh but no graphite and no weights)
Rip & Race (cars)

Banger racing:

Cars (blister fresh or wild custom - anything goes)
Trucks, vans, & SUVs (blister fresh or wild custom - anything goes)

Any interest in a Rip & Race banger race? I don't recall us having done one of those before.

As for other events, for those getting in early enough on Friday, we'll head over to Outback Toys. I'd like to leave the hotel no later than 3:30 to get there by 4PM. Afterwards, we'll have dinner at Two Cousins (pizza, subs, & Italian - note this is the Two Cousins right down the road from Outback and not the one close to the hotel). Friday night the room will be made available for set-up. Saturday is the normal racing & selling/trading. Room opens for set-up Saturday morning at 8AM, and the show opens at 9AM. Saturday night we'll hit one of the local Pennsylvania Dutch restaurants (Yoder's) for dinner. Sunday the plan is to have the room open until noon for those who want to do some last minute selling/trading, or packing up for those who want to hit the road.

I do! And I've driven to the general vicinity of the CARnival hotel from my house in snow. Of course, for me, it's only thirty miles. As of right now, it doesn't look like it's going to snow here this weekend. But rain is likely. Hopefully no one hits any of that white garbage on the way here. Safe travels, everyone!

I already have the white garbage here. Most of it melted already. I put my snowbrush BACK in the car just incase......

The forecast has changed. 50% chance of snow on Saturday and a high of only 37. Friday is a chance of rain or wintry mix. Safe travels everyone!

It's dry so far here in Central Pennsylvania. I plan on being at the hotel sometime between 12:30 and 1PM. See everyone soon!

One year I need to go to that event. I was thinking this year, but shoulder surgery a few weeks ago put a halt to that.

Hope everyone is having fun and the turnout was good. We had snow half the day yesterday. Roads were slightly slushy for a while but melted off in the afternoon.

CARnival was a lot of fun and I had a blast. But we need more foot traffic! Attendance was down, unfortunately. I'm not sure if it was the weather or what, but we NEED MORE PEOPLE to come in and buy! There's absolutely no question: if we're gonna move forward, we need more attendees. I'd posted on Facebook and Craigslist - weeks in advance - but more is needed to make CARnival grow, or it's gonna die.

Sorry to hear attendance was down. We’ve had dry years before though and came back strong.

I had a great time this year, and I'm glad the new gravity track my father kindly built and donated worked well! Let's see some more racing banger specials next year too! I'm out to defend my titles next year, and I'm not going down without a fight.

Some important notes from this year's show relevant to next year's show:

1. Nick broke the banger races with his 'competition specials' (one of which weighs three-quarters of a pound). As a result, next year we'll have three classes: cars, trucks/vans/SUVs, and Outlaw (anything goes as long as you start with a diecast car of some sort). The bangers have always been inspired by banger racing/demolition derby, and the Outlaw class in demo derby is where banned cars like the Boxcar Imperial and competition specials (welded to the extreme) come out to play and not bend... at all. The first two classes will of course remain for stock diecast and mild customs (wheelswaps and paint). Competition specials with weights and/or graphite/lubricants go in the Outlaw class. I fully expect Nick to have competition, and it better not just be me. This is the trophy hardest to earn - because this one rewards the work you put into your car. Come on, let's go wild on this. I already know what I'm doing, and it involves a different kind of derby/banger style racing. I tried it this year, it worked better than expected, and next year with some weights my Matador should once again be a contender. Or should I call it a Matastang now? Mustador?

2. The track Nick & his dad built doesn't necessarily favor the BWF Camaros. Yes, we had four of them racing in the car class this year, and yes, Steve's won again. However, it was my often-mocked green Mach 1 Mustang that knocked out Kevin's BWF Camaro in the semi-finals (I'm told my celebration was heard in every room of the hotel ;) ) that faced it in the finals. And it was closer than you'd expect. Different tracks favor different cars. My Mustang was competitive for the first time in years. Time to start looking at different cars. Protip: This track isn't kind to wider cars like the Ford GT. We'll be using this track from here on out, and while we may make some tweaks to it for next year based on what we learned this year, the basic properties should remain the same. Wider isn't better.

3. There will be even more racing next year with a new event: Criss Cross Crash. Since we had a few extra tables this year we set the track up and to say it went over well is an understatement! The format will run like the banger class (four 4-car heats with the winner of each advancing to the 4-car final bracket). Also, the best part about this track is it will require skill on the part of the competitors - each person will launch their own car simultaneously. We'll be 'testing' (read: 'playing with this as much as humanly possible') this track to figure out the fairest and most competitive rules package. NASCAR this isn't, we want everyone to have an equal chance. Protip: Hot Wheels generic cars tend to do best, but we also had a Matchbox IROC Camaro that was doing quite well. You want a car that has enough heft to knock an opponent out of the way but not so much heft that the booster can't get it all the way around the cloverleaf. Shape of the car also helps - anything that can slide a car over it (knocking it out of the track in the process) is a good choice.

4. We're going to be promoting the show heavily this year. Locally, in particular, but if all y'all could hype it on Facebook, other forums, and of course the ever-popular word-of-mouth that would be great too. We're going to make up flyers and distribute them at the local toy shows, flea markets...and well anywhere else we can hang a flyer.

5. Because of that, we're bringing in at least one security guard for next year's show. If the goal is to have more people, we don't want anything wandering off if someone needs a restroom break, lunch break, or wants to do some racing.

6. With luck, this brings in more people and in turn helps our vendors move more cars.

We're doing what we can, and tomorrow will be a planning session between our key event coordinators. Next year's show is going to be booked and as soon as possible. Event cars will be acquired and designed.

Speaking of event cars, this year's models were a pair of Auto World Firebirds. I didn't do a great job hyping them up at the show (I was a little busy running the racing events) so we have plenty of them left. A planned event car race (my planned 'hype' for these cars) never happened since we didn't have enough people left in the room to do such a race. Next year we'll order in pizza so no one has to leave.

Lastly, please buy our event cars. These directly support the show. Even if you can't attend for one reason or another, I go out of my way to design something beyond the normal 'slap the event name and year on the roof and call it done' to appeal to more people. This year, we incorporated the Keystone into the Screamin' Chicken. Last year's pickups had a Sanford & Son look going on. 2016's 1960 Ford wagon was demolition derby-inspired. 2015 featured a pair of parade cars (you know, the kind of convertible the local dairy princess sits on while waving to the crowd). You get the drift - they're cars designed to appeal to collectors in general, not just attendees of the event. And we still have plenty of these previous event cars left too.
