Today's Car Of The Day is Tomica's 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Wikipedia

The Jeep Wrangler is a compact and mid-size (Wrangler Unlimited models) four-wheel drive off-road vehicle manufactured by Jeep, currently in its third generation.

The Wrangler is arguably an indirect progression from the World War II Willys MB through the Willys civilian Jeeps (Jeep CJ) of the mid-1940s through 1980s that were produced by Kaiser-Jeep and by American Motors Corporation (AMC). Neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model.

A four-door Jeep Wrangler. Much like the Porsche sedans and SUVs, this is blasphemy, yet still sells like hotcakes. Who needs tradition if you can move an extra hundred thousand units a year?

Wikipedia

The 2007 model year brought a complete redesign of the Jeep Wrangler, and also a four-door model. The TJ chassis was replaced by an all new JK platform. This next-generation Wrangler was noticeably wider than the previous model, with a 3.4-inch (86 mm) wider track; and though the two-door model has a 2-inch (51 mm) longer wheelbase, it is actually 2.5 inches (64 mm) shorter in overall length than the TJ, allowing for a 44.3° approach angle and a 40.4° departure angle. With a larger factory available tire size of 32 inches, the breakover angle on the Rubicon is increased from 22.6° to 25.4°.
The four-door Unlimited model has an over 20-inch (510 mm) longer wheelbase at 116 in (2,950 mm) to offer much improved rear seating room, but is nevertheless only 2.4-inch (61 mm) longer than the 2006 TJ Unlimited.

The JK was first available for purchase with the 2007 model year, beginning in August 2006.

The JK Wrangler has been offered from the start in two models:

-A short-wheelbase 2-door, in X, Sahara and Rubicon trim levels.
-A long-wheelbase Unlimited 4-door, also in X, Sahara and Rubicon trim levels.

The Wrangler X is available with factory installed right-hand drive, targeted at U.S. Mail carriers. Rural mail boxes in the United States are serviced with the carrier behind the wheel. This may also be useful for carriers who wish to get out of their vehicle without the risk of getting hit by traffic. For the 2007 and 2008 model years, the right-hand drive Jeep was the short-wheelbase Wrangler. For the 2009 model year, the right-hand drive Wrangler will be replaced by the right-hand drive Wrangler Unlimited.

Stability control is a new safety feature for the JK Wrangler. All versions offer off-road tuned Anti-lock braking system and traction control system with electronic limited slip differential. Standard on the Rubicon trim is a new electronic sway bar disconnect system.

The JK runs almost all vehicle functions, other than steering, under computer software control. Engine, transmission, and to some extent braking are computer controlled, as are lights and auxiliary systems. This is a first for the Wrangler. As of mid-2007, there have been three safety recalls for software fixes.

A Sunrider convertible soft top is standard equipment. Also available on the JK model is an optional 3-piece modular hardtop. Although the doors can still be removed in traditional Wrangler fashion, power windows and remote power door locks will be offered for the first time in a Wrangler. Another first is an available navigation system. This is the first generation of the Jeep Wrangler to have a change in the tail lamps.

 Nothing stays the same, does it? Four door Jeeps and Porsches - Jaguar SUV's and even if they don't seem right they do sell. Tomica, as usual, has made a very nice model of this new Jeep. It is nice to see these different wheels on a Tomica model!

Nothing good ever happens after midnight.
I will admit, when these first dropped, they just looked wrong on so many levels. But now that they've been out awhile and are pretty ubiquitous on the roads, they're not that bad. It also seems more practical. The whole family can get in on the fun!! :)

I have less difficulty with the idea of a Jeep 4-door than I do with the Porsche and Jaguar SUVs. I also have trouble with the concept of Cadillac and Lincoln SUVs and pickups.

I love this model! As for the four door Wrangler, I think it's far from blasphemous. I've always loved four door hard core off roaders and usually like the four door versions better. The original Toyota FJ had a long wheel base version that I thought was infinitely cooler. The Land Rover Defender 90 is great, but a Defender 110 is one of my all time favorite vehicles. Add the original Hummer to the list, particularly in open top form. My first car was an XJ Cherokee and while I loved it, I really wanted a Wrangler to cruise around with no top and doors. Then Jeep came out with the Dakar concept and I thought it was amazing. Some after market companies made TJ's into 4 doors and while they looked rather home built I still thought they were cool. When Jeep announced it, I fell in love. The four door has more of a safari look, and I wanted one bad. I bought the second one that particular dealership got. I called around for two weeks trying to find one and every time I'd get to one dealer it would be sold. I found one in Dallas and bought it, drove it home only to find some major damage I didn't see when first inspecting it. Turns out it was the display vehicle at the State Fair and the dealer wasn't even supposed to sell it to me. They bought it back and two days later I finally found another after incessantly calling ever dealer around. Even my Cayman doesn't get as much attention as that did when it first came out. It quickly wore off once there were dozens on every block. But take the top and doors off, and I still think the four door looks better than a two door ever could.

As for Porsche sedans and SUVs, I wasn't a fan of the old Panamera looks wise but anything that drives that well is forgiven. The new one looks great however. I'm not a fan of Cayenne's or Macan's but the Cayenne pretty much single handedly saved Porsche so if it keeps the sports cars coming, I'll look the other way.

My old Jeep as I drove it 75% of the time, with no top or doors. I miss it, and hope to get another at some point but don't think I can ever go back to driving a truck or SUV as a daily driver.

Yeah, but it's possible to make any pretty car insanely fast and/or handle like its on rails. It is not, however, possible to make an ugly car like the Porsche Panamera pretty. And some of us care just as much for what it looks like as we do about how fast is and how well it drives. If it's so ugly I'd need to wear a paper bag over my head when out in public in it, I'd rather not drive it, even if it could do 0-60 in less than a second.

I'll be completely subjective. I have Swifty's back on everything he said about Panamera being an ugly duckling.
