Playart makes at least 3 differnt small scale VW PORSCHE 914 Models 3"or smaller

The TOOTSIE like type is ones in question

the TOOTSIE LIKE with plastic base/interior 1 piece NO WINDOWS (( what series are these I know but cant think or find pictures tonight of these anywhere found few loose open but NO SPECIFIC name

Smaller version TOOTSIE like body only no windows , no interior , no base WHAT are these ones classified as SERIES etc

I had reference pictures on a thumbdrive which was stolen from library
I can find the complete hollow body in multi packs
But needing SERIES LINE name of these also single carded

I DO KNOW of playart Charmerz which I was thinking is the BASE/INTERIOR version ( no window )

Here is a picture of the middle size INTERIOR/BASE one piece tootsie like
Sorry I do not have a image loaded of the BODY ONLY no window , no interior , no base versions loaded

Guess i cant post a picture of part of question PHOTOSMUCKET wont let me copy the link and is requiring me to sign I WILL NEVER sign in via phone

What a hassle to get this photo link ,
The ones in center plus ( NOT in this picture even smallet and complety hollow no window , no interior , no base ) ones

I don't have time right now, but Charmerz was a trade name Playart was sold as, not so much a specific line. I've seen the 1/64s sold as Charmerz.

A quick look didn't turn up much, the only I found called the mini Playarts "Super Speeders" I know I've seen them by another name, I've just always skipped over them and not paid any attention.

I also found a 1/24 Porsche, I wasn't aware Playart dabbled in large scale.

" I know I've seen them by another name, I've just always skipped over them and not paid any attention. "

Peelers was another name Playart was sold under at Woolworths. Playart also did 1/87 ( HO scale ) model trains, of which I have some, also the diecast 1970 Javelin and 1970 AMX in 1/64.

That schwimmwagen is cool! For a fella collecting fire apparatus (and police and ems), I seem to have a parallel obsession with small vehicles with machine guns mounted on them....I wonder what a psychiatrist would say about that? Hmmmmm.......

Ahh, the great Alaska State Bird, the mosquito! I do NOT miss them....working out in the interior, wearing "head nets" to keep them off the face and out of the mouth, eyes, and nose, contests to see how many 'skeets you can kill with one slap on a buddy's back, and of course, having to lift the net to put food or beverage into the mouth and immediately drop it back to the cinch around the neck or have bites everywhere or ingest the buzzers.....

Meanwhile, I have several of the Woolworth's Mini Peelers' fire engines (the orange thing to the right in the top row), and they have a logo or trademark inside that is a "W" inside a circle, and "Made in Hong Kong"--anybody know what the W in the circle stands for? Woolworth's? Woolco? Something else entirely?

My understanding is the W within a circle is the logo / mark for the brand Wheeler. I think I have one Wheeler in my collection, I don't even recall exactly what. Subject to correction, I am thinking Wheeler might be one of the smaller firms Universal bought out in the early 80s when they were on a buying spree.

Thanks very much. So Playart sold Wheeler models too. It gets pretty confusing how to catalog some of these brands, especially if you don't want your catalog to be an encyclopedia in size.....

Certainly possible, but also possible Wheeler bought the tiny Playart tooling, or contracted it, or a number of other business arrangements are possible. Could be Playart contracted from Wheeler, I don't know. I know Playart folded under in the first half of the 1980s...when exactly I'm not sure. When Wheeler was bought by Universal I'm not sure either, but I believe it would have been prior to the buyout of Matchbox and during the time they owned Kidco, so again the first half of the 1980s, probably closer to '82 or '83. I think they got Mbx around '84-85. And according to the former Kidco employee I corresponded with a while back (copy of the email in the database) Kidco was shut down by the time of the Matchbox buyout. Just looking back, it appears to me most if not all of the subsidiary brands that Universal bought out prior to Mbx were shut down around the time Mbx was bought, and attention and assets then shifted primarily to that brand. Possible exception being Dinky, and Universal owned that brand at that time as well, and why you find Mbx castings in Dinky brand packaging.

So yes, this gets convoluted really quick, and about as hard to keep track of as free agents bouncing from team to team.

In case it wasn't clear, I don't believe Playart was owned by Universal, it was coincidence they closed around the same period of time that Universal closed a number of their smaller subsidiaries. A really good clue would be the date on the package, which I don't recall seeing. I did notice and have seen in the past the not so subtle copy of the Hot Wheels Twin Mill minus the engines. Kind of odd to see that in Tootsie size hollow body, but that tells me the box set likely dates from the late 70s up to maybe 1980-81, so on the cusp of both Playart and Wheeler folding...which brings us back around to not really knowing whose original tool was used. If I had to guess, I would guess the hollow body tools are likely Wheeler, especially if they carry that company's mark...but that is not a given as we've seen elsewhere with Imperial and Road Champs. But Playart already had an extensive tool bank of the larger 1/64ish models, and the tools for the minis are so different from Playart's norm that it seems reasonable to me Playart contracted from someone else.

Thankx everybody , YA so many times Dies/tooling/mold gets sold to another or just as stated subcontracted out ( either borrowed , or say COMPANY "A" lets COMPANY "B" use thier tool/die/mold BUT OWNERS pump out the product BUT "B" co is whom will be receiving the items and sold .

I looked on me MIGHTY MIDGET Collect-A-Car looks as it does have a W inside a island circle ,lost missplaced me magnify glass so cant read all the inside markings .

Funny how so MANY diecast/plastic car companies ate owned by others and are CONNECTED at one time or another or Remain today

Everybody have a WoNdErFuL day , coldpopcarl ~ col'pop
