Looking through a diecast bin at my train shop I work at a month ago, I found this little 1/87 scale towtruck, and it turns out it's made by Marx, the toy (train) maker, although Marx did many other toys as well as trains. I wasn't aware of any diecast, though. At any rate, it's now adopted and has a safe home with me. :D

I like how Marx made the wheels smaller diameter on the inside, so it looks like a scale sized wheel, instead of a Hotwheels outsized wide tire. Very good attention to detail.

Not remembering all of the history but I do recall that Marx made a few 3 inch size cars and trucks - most were more similar to Tootsietoy models with open base but I know there were a few like the wrecker you show that were made.

This is one of the others they produced, and like John said, no base:

Ford C style cab, made in Hong Kong by Marx, "Fire Truck" is the simple name of the casting. Smaller than 1/87, but still closer to HO than N scale.
