The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

![]() Today's racing truck of the day is New Ray's 1998 Mercedes Atego racing truck. Its made to about 1/87 scale. This is from Chris.P's collection. ![]()
![]() Racing versions of the Atego model took a part in the European Truck Racing Championship for the first time in 1998. These trucks were equipped with 11.5-liter V6 engine with rated at 1496 hp. Top speed is limited at 160 km/h. Mercedes pulled out of truck racing a short time after this was current, although appear to have re-entered later. ![]() ![]() For more information and pictures of the racing truck, please visit: Atego racing truck ![]() ![]() For more information and pictures of the Atego range , please visit: : Atego range I bought this from a French motorway services shop in the mid 2000s. Boxed in a tray for about £4? Its very detailed, 6 rubber tyres, roll cage inside the cab, very finely printed grilles/netting on the side windows. Fantastic printing on the cab, front screen and side panels. It sits happily with the Matchbox Mercedes Benz Actros. ![]() I don't remember there being any others available at the time. The model has an entry on the hobbydb website but no details. ![]() ![]() |

It just goes to show, people will race anything with wheels (as well as many things without wheels). It is a nicely detailed model from New Ray - right down to the ESSO tiger logo! It would have been neat if there was a series of these so those who like racing could have a display of some of the other trucks in the series.

That's actually pretty cool! Didn't know anything about this or the Euro truck racing. I know in the states back around 1980 (about the time of the Smokey and the Bandit movies) drag racing Semi trucks was a bit of a thing, but it quickly disappeared. |
