Running in the 90's
I just picked this up today, and I haven't seen one like it before. It looks like a 1968 or newer Dodge truck. There are no markings on the base whatsoever, and the wheels looks similar to original Matchbox wheels. Any ideas as to what it is?

I've got one of those. It's kinda crude, but really neat. A favorite of mine. I read somewhere it's by Kenner. I think there were 2 or 3 other models in the line-up.

Support your local demo derby.

It is in fact made by Kenner. The other two models in this series were a red Pontiac Firebird and green F1 racer according to The Encyclopedia of Small-Scale Diecast Motor Vehicle Manufacturers written by Kimmo Sahakansgaas, Dave Weber and Mark Foster. Dave and of course Mark are still active members here on the Garage. There's a picture of this very yellow Dodge pickup under the Kenner listing in the book. The entry states these were likely produced in the USA.

If indeed (can't see right now), that and the Firebird are two I've been seeking for years. I have the open wheeler. I've never seen the Firebird.

A seller on the 'bay has a boxed example of the Dodge pickup for sale at $75 for a couple years now and I balk at the price, but it is the only one confirmed I've seen for sale in that time.

thats one thing Kenner didn't dabble in too much

In my humble opinion, going by when they were released and the design, I think they were imitating regular wheel Matchbox, just at the time Matchbox was gearing up to meet the challenge from Hot Wheels. In other words, too little, too late. My guess is they didn't sell well and didn't get many wholesale buyers when for the same money you could have orange track speedsters.

Budgie was on the way out for the same reason about the same time.

That is one beautiful old truck. Love the patina and worn paint.

That's got to be one of the earliest examples of a Kenner diecast I've ever saw.
