Controversy is surprisingly good for a discussion forum. Since we frown upon flame wars here, there are few opportunities to stir things up without stirring the pot. Sometimes I like to just throw some wild opinions out there and see where the chips land. Controversy gets people talking. This topic has more replies than any COTD topic in a long time. And I was completely honest: I really do hate Scion, I really do think the tC & xB are ugly, I still think it was a horrible marketing move, I refuse to own any Toyota made after 2005, and I won't apologize for Like I said, this is a discussion forum. For once, we actually had a real discussion about the COTD (that wandered off topic a few times) instead of COTD getting like three replies. You know what's worse than controversy? Apathy. Which is the vibe I've been getting about COTD for a while. It takes a lot of time and effort to keep a daily feature like this going, and when there's little response it gets a bit discouraging. This was probably the most interesting topic we've had here in months. Debating taste (which is subjective) is a lot less controversial than say, discussing religion or politics. So unless there's a sentient Scion secretly lurking here... I don't think anyone's going to leave this discussion upset. That said, I must admit I didn't think we'd still be talking about it a week later. Maybe if people had been this passionate about Scion when they were still in production (and you know, actually purchased one) they'd still be around.

I don't think it's that ugly. I like at least collecting these boxy Japanese cars. We have a lot of similar stuff in Europe, though styled not that sharp-edged, like Renault Kangoo, Citroen Berlingo, VW Caddy and such. I think Kia Soul is the only Asian entry in that market that is available here. Someone grey-imported a bunch of Nissan Cubes but they didn't sell well. What I think is that the last gen. Celica is hideous. And the tC looks quite nice. I would rather have that. But rather than the tC any older gen. Celica. |
