My wife works for Mazda North America, and she rented an MX-5 for the weekend (pics coming to another thread soon). She returned the car today, and I went with her, and here's what I found tucked away in the parking structure... Just a peek for now. I'll share the rest tomorrow. ^_^

So, here's most of what caught my eye. I wasn't able to spend much time checking out the cars since my wife was waiting in her car. I don't know the specifics on each of the cars, so I'll leave the descriptions and details up to you guys. Hopefully these cars generate some discussion.

Great parking garage "museum"

The RX-7 is awesome of course, but I also really like that early 2-door Audi 100 - that is something you don't see every day

Interesting mix of brands!
And even a german built NSU Prinz 1200 that appears to be outfitted with foreign markets specifications, that is highly unusual!!

The historical significance of the "Neue Klasse" models from BMW is quite remarkable, as they saved BMW from going bankrupt.

What a cool group of cars! So this was the same parking structure Mazda uses? I wonder if perhaps they could be owned by Mazda? Some of those cars represented pretty significant developmental achievements and I could possibly see a company like Mazda wanting to benchmark them even this many years later.

The Ford Falcon Sprint drop top needs some attention with the rust spots on the bottom of the door and splash guard. Someone else was missing a radio antenna, and some minor body dings on another...trivial stuff overall considering. Certainly a fondness for German engineering in that crowd, and the early RX-7 is nice to see again as well, as is the old Saab. This collector has some excellent taste in automobiles! Nice to see the old Dodge Dart / Plymouth Valiant as well, even if it is a more-door, my grandfather had one in two tone brown (tan with a dark vinyl roof). I still have the build sheet in my bookcase. I see another Dart 2 door behind the RX-7....that would be my pick of the litter.

I'm trying to see if my wife can find out any info as to this collection. The parking structure is used by Mazda, but it actually belongs to their neighbor, Taco Bell, so, I assume the cars belong to someone from TB...

I'm curious... what are the indicators that it is "outfitted with foreign markets specifications"?

The front fascia is different, US market models required sealed beam headlights. Euro market models were outfitted with double or oval shaped head lights.
Also, the lights on the side of the front and rear fender, not sure how you call them, marker lights perhaps?? are an indication that this one was built to US market specifications.
I also guess that these models were equipped in a more superior way, with AC for example and power steering. Options that you had to pay extra in the domestic market, if they were available at all.
I guess again that these measures were taken to be more competitive in foreign markets.

The Prinz 1200 was built from 1967 to 1973 and if i imagine the size of US cars from that period, i take my hat off to that person who was brave enough to purchase and participate in every day traffic with that little Prinz.

:) Wow! That is quite a varied and unique assortment of cars. Not what one would expect to find in a parking garage. Looking forward to the rest of the story.

Taco Bell will land into Finland this year, which is a really odd choice for a company not present in most of the European countries, since most of the well-known US-based fast food chains are not present here or have already closed their Finnish operations. It is predicted that the chain will retreat from here after a year or two.

Maybe they have bought some cars to cover their potential losses..

Parking lights are the same as the front and rear marker lights, the ones that come on when you pull out the light switch before the headlights actually come on, at least on cars of this vintage. Same applies with different switch in later years, parking lights are front and back.

The "side marker" lights are just that, side markers...not parking lights. They happen to come on as the same time as the parking lights (sometimes the front side markers double as turn signals, often they don't). When you get into Class I and II vehicles (big and medium trucks) you get a lesson on marker lights...and why large trucks have so many across the roof.

LOL...

I guess it depends how well Finnish folk like Americanized Mexican food.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. Many of the cars look like they've been sitting a long time though - very dusty. Maybe they are 'extra' cars waiting to be moved to a more permanent garage?

The parking garage is semi-private. Not gated, but I think it is monitored and patrolled. I was expecting someone to show up when I was taking the pictures. It's an otherwise private garage strictly used by Taco Bell and Mazda.
