My wife works for Mazda North America. She usually drives a CX-5 as here daily driver. Since she works at corporate, she can also rent a car whenever she wants. She's been wanting to rent an MX-5, and that's what she did over the weekend, so we took the car for some fun driving on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyways, thought I'd share some pics of the car and our weekend.

Back on the road! We drove through Trabuco Canyon and Silverado Canyon, then headed back towards Tustin, Irvine and on to Laguna Beach

Traffic was great until we got to Laguna Canyon.

We finally made it to Newport Beach. We stopped at the civic center so the dog could take a pit stop.

We finished the day with a nice cool reward!

The next day we did more freeway driving and drove to Torrance for some cake from one of our favorite bakeries, then back to Irvine to return the car. Pictures of what greeted us can be found elsewhere on Swifty's - http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/9064151/1/

It looks great! The new styling of the MX-5 I really like, and it is slowly climbing my list of favourite cars. Offering it as a hardtop definitely gives it points in my book. I'm sure that it was a blast to drive as well!

Assuming the RAV 4 in the third picture is yours?

Actually I did most of the driving. I think she enjoyed riding in it more than driving it... at least that's what she told me.

I would have enjoyed a manual, but my wife doesn't drive them... she knows how to drive a RHD manual, but it's been years, and now she's too scared to drive a LHD manual.

Convertibles are fun, but we enjoyed the hardtop... it was a hot day, and we were cranking the AC. Besides, our dog a spoiled princess and she doesn't like it if it's too windy when we drive... and she has a thing about motorcycles (likes to bark at them when they go by). So we were better off with the top up anyway.

Yes, the RAV4 is mine. A step down from my old 4Runner, but I still enjoy it.

Thanks. Yeah, it's convenient that my wife works at Mazda corporate... It's nice that we can rent a fun car for a few days without the hassles of ownership.

Nice car. Nice photography! The ice cream also looks delicious..

I didn't know the GT is sold in USA, I thought it was a Japan-only special.

I tested the Convertible a couple years ago when it was a brand new model at our Mazda Club meeting, where the Finnish importer gave one car for the weekend to try out. It was really good to drive, though I had problems to fit my legs in the car as well as my head when the roof was up

The Miata is a great car. But I just couldn't justify the expense while also owning the Boxster and I am not getting rid of that car. With insurance and the payment it was running me nearly an Amalgam Ferrari F40 every month. Carmax gave me a solid offer on it (higher than sold prices on eBay for a comparable one, even though mine had a slightly damaged hood) and I let it go.

I don't know the cost of those sports cars Rob but it sure is one sexy car. To me it looks like a lot of fun. As Mike says for the weekend maybe.

Thanks! Yep, we had fun. Don't know if I'd want one as a daily driver, but a weekend driver would be nice. :D
