Well, tomorrow we're officially halfway through the year, and Auto World has finally given us a peek at one of the six new castings coming this year, and it's a good one. It's the clamshell Buick Estate wagon for 74, 75 and 76 model years. Check out those Buick Road Wheels too! I'm seriously excited about this one, and will probably purchase every variation they make.

What a great choice! Absolutely shames the JL clamshell, that's for sure! I love it, and I'll also be tracking down every single one I can find!

I hope they're tooling up variations for the Chevy, Pontiac, and Olds versions too. I was always partial to the Pontiac Catalina version personally. Probably because there was a white one still hanging around as a daily driver through the '90s.

And since its such an oddball choice, even though this isn't GreenLight, my immediate thought was to check the IMCDb to see what new show or movie is using one. And lo & behold:

Never heard of it, but one of the main characters has a '76 Estate.

Most interesting - just when I asked the question in a different post about the last new casting from AW here comes this post with this awesome looking Buick wagon. It is a bit of an odd choice but as one who likes station wagons certainly not complaining. Now, I wonder what the other new castings will be?

I keep wondering if them might ever do a few wagons from the '50's or would that be more M2 territory = although they seem to have lost interest in '50's era cars.

I hope they will tool up variations for Olds, Pontiac and Chevy too. One can never have too many wagons. The Pontiac Safaris were probably the least common of the bunch, so it would be great to see it in scale. I'm partial to the Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser myself. I wouldn't mind seeing the big Fords and Mercs from the same era too.

AW posted some new images on Facebook which I'm reposting here on the Garage.

AutoWorld

Here’s a first look at the test shot for our 1974 Buick Estate Wagon! We’re in review making small adjustments to the windows, hood, and core-lines and will have the tool finalized shortly! This new tool has been set up with options to run ‘74, ‘75, and ‘76 wagons, so there will be plenty of variations coming!

We’ve got the 1974 slated for release in Auto World Premium 2018 Release 3.

Auto World Premium 2018 Release 3 - Due July 2018.

Beltline's too high, and the roof looks chopped in comparison.
