I remember some breakfasts (in Australia and perhaps also in NZ) where I had Weetabix.....and for a while there was sort of an American version but I can't remember what it was called...it came in rectangular 'blocks' that you were supposed to break up by hand into your bowl, if I remember correctly. The nearest thing I can think of today is Grape Nuts Flakes.....for the texture if not the flavor.

Nice Convoy, anyway!

No, not Shredded Wheat.....it was flakes like Weetabix compacted into a brick shape (also like Weetabix), and they got soggy really quickly in milk....and I thought they were the same thing as Weetabix just packaged differently in the USA. What I was thinking of was "Ruskets", which, if I remember correctly, was in "biscuit" form just like Weetabix.

While searching for the long-forgotten Ruskets name, I came upon this tidbit: Post cereal just bought Weetabix in April this year. So, Weetabix is apparently widely available in USA stores. I don't remember seeing any in any local markets, but I wasn't specifically looking for it.

And, there was "Ruskets Flakes", uncompressed, more like the Grape Nuts Flakes I adore nowadays.

I was going to answer your question Blair but already did - the cereal was Ruskets - very similar to Weetabix in texture and flavor. Someplace I have some little plastic airplanes that came with the cereal - one being lettered for long gone Western Airlines. :D From '84-'94 lived just south of the Canadian border and we would go to Estevan, SK on a regular basis. The kids liked to buy groceries that they never saw in the US so came home often with Weetabix, Smarties and other Canadian type products.

Yes, makes me want to make a Canada run (only about 5 hours north of me) for some Weetabix - I can see the response at Canadian customs - probably the same strange look I would get from them when I would go to Estevan to get my Buckley's.
