14-B4 Daimler Ambulance (1958)

These were given to me circa 1968 (when I was 8 years old) by the youngest of three brothers who lived across the street. He would have been 16 at the time. Even then, they seemed antiquated. Current regular, black wheeled Matchbox toys were slightly larger than the Daimler ambulance, and the Tramcars were nothing I had direct experience with. Nevertheless, I've hung on to them. Unfortunately, Ronnie died in a car crash four years later in his 1972 VW Beetle with his girlfriend at the wheel. They were driving home for Thanksgiving from Cornell Univ. These seem extra special because of that. Anyway, kept seeing the Tramcars when I was poking around for the Volvo trucks last week, and thought I'd share.

A blast from the past is always a fun thing - even when there is a bit of sadness tied to the story. Can understand why the models would still have special meaning to you. I have both models in my collection as well - the ambulance is a natural since I like ambulances and that is one of the focus areas of my collection these days - and the Tram because I have always liked things British - my father spent time during WW II in England as well as other times during his years in the US Air Force and helped "educate" me on things like trams and such.

Sad story about your neighbor, and so young. Gifts like these are certainly to be treasured, especially with the tragic loss of the person who gave them to you.
