Nothing special. The Datsun should by all rights be in a beater box, but it lives with other, better examples.

#67-C5 Datsun 260Z 2+2
#16-J Ford LTD Police Car. Has what appears to be a Cadillac front grille and Ford LTD rear. (1987/Thailand)

The LTD is probably my 2nd favorite Matchbox police car, the old #55 Mercury police commuter is probably #1. :D

I really enjoyed collecting all the LTD versions when the model was in the line.

Good one. What was Pretty in Pink anyway, a movie? How about "pre-enjoyed in fuscia"? :P

I like the #55 Ford and later, the Mercury too. Recall the Mercury seeming so much more modern than the old, black wheeled Ford Galaxie when it came out.

Found a #59 Mercury Fire chief car the other day (bright orange, dual blue roof lights) that I may post later. It's odd because the baseplate has no model number. Catalogue says I found a photo of it on the web in 2005 with the box, which included "59." Maybe you're familiar with it? Just checked, and the web is full of photos of this one today - just for reference. I see roof light variations on the web photos too. Maybe some custom handiwork too, not sure.

I think the grill on this casting is pretty accurate to the Ford.

I keep thinking part of it had to do with Matchbox using the Mercury casting for the #55 police car as well - not sure why they couldn't do like Tomica did in their early days where the base had multiply numbers on it - should not have been to hard to put 55/59 on the base but that is just my :02:

Wow, you're right. If that's a Ford grille, then I still think it looks like a Cadillac. I guess the Matchbox was pretty true to the original. Must have missed that era of Fords. Thanks.

My grandmother had an LTD, so this casting was always a favorite of mine.

Jeff, The one you have is the later casting, it started out in Superfast as about the same casting as the regular wheel with the gumball type light on top and then came later with light bar like yours.

Here is a link to the variations listed on the BAMCA site .... http://www.bamca.org/cgi-bin/vars.cgi?mod=MI859 ....There were many varis, but many aren't pictured there, though it does show one with your same stickers.

I'm wondering if they deleted the #59 from the base when they changed it to the lightbar.

Thanks for the link and comments Doug. At least the link had a picture of my variant. Now, I'll have to compare the original regular wheels Mercury police car to this one.
