My boss at work had to put his mother in a nursing home. He has been bringing stuff to work and letting the employees go through and take what they want.
Thanks boss-man....this set is sweet!!!!

One piece of track is broken but other than that it's all there. Plus 2 boxes of foil tape and plugs to make others into slot cars!!

That's crazy cool! You will have to set it up and try it out, I'd love to see it in action.

Interesting. Congratulations! I see three cars on the box lid that I had as a kid; the red Jag, the green Ferrari and the blue BRM.

Bert and I are mystified.  What makes the cars move, since they don't have motors?

this is a similar set & it looks like it uses 2 wires that go around the whole loop B)

do want one someday
I wonder if this will work on the Superfast models ^_^

basically, it has a VERY long spring ( almost like an old mechanical Speedometer cable ) that fits in the slot groove, and it pulls the cars around with that. So you can't really have a 90 degree cross-over and things like that, but a very simple system, AND you can use normal MB cars on it. Rather ingenious idea. I have this set, too, have never set it up to try it, nor familiar with how the motor pulls the spring around the groove.

it uses a GEAR to run the spring!

Can but as if notice the lesney pre superfast wheels , the bases are more level then being like a multi peak mountain range the way the catcher pin is connected to the base of car it will maintain better on the older flater more smooth sections has more pure contact connection -
you can use basically any casting from any maker

Congrats on the new playset Scotty, that was quite a raok from the boss, must be a great guy.

The set hardly looks used much, even the box is in great shape, and even having the booklet is a real cool thing. I had found a much more used one at a flea market many years back, it was cheap enough but the box is really poor, and the springs are hard to describe, very twisted up, although they still look like they'd work, but I never tried to feed them into track, who knows how that would be. :D

Woooo-EE! What a racket! I can see (HEAR, actually) why these may not have been all that popular. The noise that spring/cable makes as it slithers around the entire track is quite irritating. It must wear very heavily on the plastic guides, especially on the corners.

Very interesting collectible, though. Thanks for the links and info, everyone!
