I managed to get a couple of these recently on my recent American trip. I know its technically a generic casting but is it actually based on a real vehicle?

It's based on a 1972 GMC Step Van, which the Mombasha Fire Company originally had photos on their site, but they changed hosting for the site, and no longer mention retired apparatus. The '72 had the placement of the lights as on the Maisto, but they also have an '89 they're still using that's almost identical.

Very nice! Thanks for the info and the cool photo of the real van/truck.

I was going to guess maybe it was a GMC.
