Lesney #41 (Chevrolet) Ambulance

Just thought I'd post my collection of the old Chevrolet Ambulance first introduced in 1978.

Mine are just the #41 Lesney issues, but feel free to post the later versions, mine are hard to get to since they are in different locations, or if you are lucky enough, even post Lesney's red German issue, one I don't have, but wish to someday.

The Code Red version below I understand was also issued as a regular single, however, I don't believe the basic range one was a Lesney issue, probably made in Macau, but I don't have one of those to show.

Now you might be wondering why I have 3 of the green labeled versions, well, you might notice in this next pic that the door colors vary, but you'll see in the photo after that that there are different interior colors as well.

The packaged one has both bright white doors, and then the odd one with one white and one cream door, and finally both cream.

The packaged one is hard to tell with interior, but it almost appears to be lighter than the greenish intr version on the bottom.

Thanks, although I don't know how good I can spot variations, some of the time I just found a model for too cheap to pass up, or it happened to be in a lot, but I guess often times something tells me it looks quite unusual compared to what I remember of the model at home, even though I don't actually remember all the details of the one at home, and then after getting home I get lucky and find it's a vari, and I think I picked up that orange interior ambulance because the orange seemed unfamiliar when I had seen it.

Thanks, Glad you liked collecting them too.

Well I believe it was dropped in 1996, as in 1997 they introduce the Ford Ambulance, and that year, '97, they had the Inaugural Edition, the gold Challenge issue, and a basic range issue of the Ford, so I guess there wasn't really room left to continue the Chevy anymore. I was actually hoping for the Chevy to be in the gold Challenge one, but it didn't make it.

That said, the Chevy did reappear in the basic range in 1999 painted as a SWAT vehicle. I'm not sure if it was in multi packs after it was dropped in 1996, but it could have been.

this is the same way all vari collectors do it.sometimes we will get a heads up on one and then go hunt it.

Guess I even do that too, sometimes hear about something and go look for it, usually just new stuff, I hardly ever remember to look when I'm at the shows or flea markets with older varis. :D

Thanks for all those pics of later issues John, It would have taken me ages to try and find them all in my various locations, and overstuffed Matchbox emergency vehicle cabinet. That black SWAT one you show from 1999, was the one I was speaking of earlier, the one time after 1996 the casting was re-released.

They've been using it as a Code 2/3 model still to this date. Public Safety Diecast lists it as a promo model for Najo spine boards as lately as 2013.

Thanks for the info Cody, I had recently seen a photo of a lot of blanks that Glen (ems90) had for customs, wonder if maybe he got them from one of those promo companies.

That's one I'd like to add to my collection someday, I say that although now that I think about it I have a couple Graffic Traffic emergency sets I haven't looked at in quite awhile, where as I may have the ambulance in one of those sets. hmmm I'll have to try an remember to check when I get home.
