OK so the tin isn't really a Matchbox item, it was something I picked up some years back at a thrift store, and it appears to originally had contained candy, and is noted as a pencil box or tin on the back, which I forgot to take a photo of.

Anyways, the vehicles depicted all remind me of old Matchbox cars.

The thing is one of my first thoughts in finding it was to use it for Matchbox cars, and what more suited than London Buses, or more precisely some #17 Leyland Titan buses, so that's what has been in it for all these years.

 What a neat tin box - love all those London buses on it. The pictures definitely make one think about the various British Matchbox models that have been in the line-up over the years such as the London Taxi. You have made great use of it to store some of your London Buses. :bowing:

Thanks guys, glad you like the box, I used to pick up all kinds of tin or wood boxes I thought were neat, and useful for something I had in mind at the time, though this is probably one of the best uses of one of those boxes.

hmmm...I can't really remember, but I don't think the lid would close, although I kind of like seeing profile of the model when I open it too, so maybe then I decided on viewing them instead of quantity.

Yeah, you are right, and I'd actually seen a real one land at Tampa airport years ago when I'd lived there, that was back around 1984 or 85 so not sure if the British one was still around then, but wasn't there a French one as well, maybe that was it then.

That would be Concorde, joint venture by French Aérospatiale and British BAC. First flight was 1969 and they were all grounded in 2003 following a crash in 2000. My father flew in one back in the 1990s, it took 4 hours to get to New York from England. Really magnificent. By comparison it usually take 8 or 9 hours in a standard jumbo jet. It is really sad that it ended. But interestingly France and Britain did not invent SST, like they claim - it was Mother Russia, with the equally beautiful Tupolev Tu 144, that first flew in 1968 (albeit with many, many, many problems! )

And that's a perfect use for it in my mind as well. If I'm not mistaken, every vehicle depicted has a Matchbox equivalent.

I like to reuse tins and boxes as well. A lot of my knife collection is stored in cigar boxes, and Altoids tins wrangle small stuff I often carry on or with me. The models in it kinda reminds me of what I do with the old carry cases. I try to make sure that if I have it, I've got at least one of the models depicted on the artwork is in there. That way, I know where to find it.

Cody, I was pleased about the same thing with most shown also being Matchbox models,
I say most because I'm not sure of the open top bus, or the motorcycle, and while it is hard to see in my photos, there is also a train shown, which of course is not like a Matchbox, but the most prominent ones do seem to fit well for Matchbox use.

It depend - in the main line they never had an open top bus - but there were a couple in the Model of Yesteryear series. I am actually surprised that they never offered an open top bus in the 1-75 range.
