Penny for your thoughts?; Penny/ Polistil/ Politoys

I've been doing a little organizing so I rounded up all my Penny models for a group photo. Penny is definitely my favorite vintage brand. I love the look and feel of them, and the subject matter is much more up my alley than vintage American brands. Most but not all of the Penny cars have opening features, either a hood or doors or both and are 1:66 scale. Penny evolved into Polistil and also sold cars under the Polistil name and Politoys name. Some of these were a bit smaller like the ones on the back of the transporter. And some were much larger like the Gulf Group 5 racer in the back.

My thoughts? Fantatastic group of models, i am sure it took lotīs of effort and patience to put them together.
The Porsche is one, i have never seen in person so far and remains, along with many other Penny/Polistilīs, high on my want list.

I remember seeing some of the above models at a classic car exhibition in Padova/Italy, where they have an entire hall dedicated to die cast models in all scales. Asking price was € 60,00 a piece which was a little too steep for me.

I like that they made some italian Sedans and Coupes that are not done by any other. Would like to have some of those some day. I have had a couple of sportscars by Penny but I have let them go to people that need them more than I do.

Those Pennys are very cool indeed. And especially that Lancia car transporter.
I only have the bisiluro.
Regarding the Polistil, I have a few F1's. These have about the same size as the group 5 racer.

Wow - thats a great gathering of cars. Sadly I do not have any Penny models in my collection, but would be happy to take one of yours for further thoughts.

Very nice collection Ben! I have always marveled at the detail, the opening parts and the quality of these little cars that came out in the 1960's. They were heavy and unique for us American kids who didn't get to see a whole lot of Italian cars in those days - outside of a few Fiat's. I know from other conversations that the Porsche casting is one that is always in high demand! The auto transporter is another unique and wonderful piece.

Now that I'm home, I can see finally see your pictures, and great pictures they are!

I know of Penny, but I know nothing about Penny, so I thoroughly enjoy seeing these cars and learning a little something. Thank you for sharing them with us!

although I do not have any penny models (I have to focus on my main collectable brand) they do look really great ...especially that Polizia (?) Alfa Romeo.

Great collection!

Thanks everyone! Guntownal, your Penny collection was the reason I started collecting them too, I absolutely love that last pic. Mr. Futura, those two are on the top of my want list, I don't imagine you're ever planning on parting with them but if you do, please think of me. And many thanks to pjedsel as a good number of these came from him.

Wonderful pics, Ben!

I notice there is only one casting on the pic that is represented twice - the :ferrari: Berlinetta Lusso.
This in my opinion disturbs the otherwise perfect harmony.
I think we need to talk about one of them. :poke: :D

Where does one find these? Dragged eBay quick last night but only found the Lancia car transporter (different color scheme, mint, and expensive!). No cars except for the ones on the transporter. Are these found mainly in Italy? I think I saw Italy as the country of origin. Somebody mentioned seeing them in Italy at 60 Euro a pop. Could possibly justify maybe one a year at that rate. They are super nice. What's the yellow sedan by the transporter? Looks like a Datsun or Fiat. Knowing now these are Italian, it's probably an Alfa.

The Alfa Romeo Bertone 2600 Sprint is also duplicated, once in olive with a police light and then a blue civilian version. The Ferrari's told me they've become best friends and I couldn't bear to split them up.

I almost pulled the trigger and offered them up to you! But the more I looked at your pics, the more I wanted to keep them and get more (what would I rather have, a dozen JLs collecting dust in my closet or a nice Penny?!). I need therapy. If I ever do, you're the guy.

The yellow one is indeed an Alfa. A Giulia TI. Finding them is tricky, try searching for Penny 1/66 or Penny plus the brand name of the individual cars. Some of them seldom come up on Ebay. The Ferrari Dino for instance, in three years of having "Penny Ferrari" saved as an Ebay search I saw 5. Three in not very good shape that sold for between $20-50, one mint one that sold for well over $100 and I got severely outbid on and then mine, which I somehow got really lucky on and think I paid about $30 for. The transporter was another I got very lucky on, I paid $60 for it and it included three cars. The transporter isn't mint, mostly just the chrome that has discolored on the wheels, but since it usually sells for above $100, I was really happy to get it for $60 with three cars. Some of the Alfa Romeo's are relatively common, as is the Maserati 3500 GT (one of my favorites in the lot) and you can probably find them in the $20 range if you're patient. If you want to know what any of the other cars are, let me know which ones.

I completely understand! I have my eye on a Mercedes that's on Ebay right now with no bids. Opening bid is already pretty steep so I'm crossing my fingers there won't be much competition.
