I guess there have been plenty of topics started on the subject of storage, so whats another, right? Anyone use HOT CASES? http://hotcases.com/index.html I know Pegers does, because that's where I first learned about them. I've been considering getting a few to hold my 'bigger car' the cars that won't fit nicely in the Jammers cases. Has anyone used the Hot Cases for M2, Greenlight, or Auto World? I wondering what inserts would be the best to use. Looking at them online I'm thinking the Redline inserts, since the original has various sized cavities. I never liked Jammers too much, mostly because of having to store them upright and that annoying double size space on either side. BUT, I finally gave in and bought a bunch from Jo Ann's. I never bought them before because in the store they are something like $15, but I noticed they are marked down online to about $8 or $9, and you can use a discount code on top of that, and you can pick-up in store.... so I did that hitting 2 or 3 different stores. On average I was paying about $7 each for them. What else is good for the slightly larger cars and trucks? |

Mike..if you look around you may be able to find some stomper cases.they are like the 48 car cases with trays.but the trays are larger and hold fewer cars/trucks. also if you can find some of these car cases.they where made for the bigger race cars. ![]() this shows the extra length for the 3 down compartments. note:each compartment is not that much longer.the space is divided between the 3 compartments. ![]() this shows the extra width for the 4 across compartments. note:each compartment is not that much wider.the space is divided between the 4 compartments.

I have about 30 of the double sided jammers from Jo Annes. I don`t buy them in Canada though. They cost about $30 here. My wife has a friend who does a lot of sewing & crafting. Whenever there is a sale on at Jo Annes in the US, she will pick me up 3 or 4. When they go on sale, they don`t last in the stores very long. It is very easy to find something when you are looking for it with the clear cases. I used to store my cars in the hot wheels 48 or 100 car cases. They are a pain. |

Thanks! I do recall that discussion. If the divider were moved in the center slot, how big would the space be? Do you think 2 cars would fit in each row? I assume you can't do that with the trucks other wise you'd be doing it. But I'm wondering if the average GL or AW would fit that way? I'm wondering if the case would hold 12 large cars? |

Agreed with the pain about using the older 24/48/72 car carry cases, have to open them up to see what's inside, and on something already 30 years old that is added stress on the bending parts. The simplest and easiest (cost effective) way I've come up with for the larger stuff (or castings I have so many of) is made by Plano (just like the jammers) of the same material, and can be found in either the fishing tackle or sewing section at Wally's, and depending who has the better price on a given day I'll pick up a few. I can get 3 for around $10-11. They come with slides that can make preset size spaces...I leave them out entirely and take advantage of the long space. I can usually fit half a jammer or more worth of standard diecast, and I use them for oversize castings (59 Caddys, HW 62 Bonneville, any High Speed or other 1/87 tractor-trailers, etc). I also have a few similar but deeper boxes I use (2 deep) for Muscle Machines, Jada and Greenlight, and just filled one the other night with vans (some Corgi and Majorette castings). The deeper ones typically are in the $6 range, and can easily hold as much as a jammer. With these you have to cushion between the castings, not a problem for me because I cushion with tissue and wrap in baggies anyway...and I use packing peanuts to protect convertible windshields and other fragile, easily damaged details in case a box falls over. Those fancy carry cases with the foam inserts look nice, but just don't seem cost effective to me. That's a LOT of money to spend for a little black plastic case with foam cushion. (And I have concerns about the material used for the foam...does it interact with paint or soft rubber tires like some plastics do?) To each their own, I suppose it looks really cool to plop one of those fancy pants cases on a counter and open up to reveal a few grand worth of pristine redlines, but I don't have that kind of bread laying around, so I make do with what is readily available. Back before I even had any cases (other than the typical HW or Mbx 24/48 styles) or even knew Jammers existed, I used to pick up the half size flat Plano boxes out of Dollar General, so my oldest cases are still in use must be almost 25 years now. I like the new ones better, better hinges and better clasps, but the concept is the same as it has always been. |

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't get out to many flea markets, shows, or conventions... and the few time I've seen any case the sellers seem to want a lot for them. I usually stay away from Ebay, and rather not buy cases that way. Also, I'd rather spend that same amount on something new, especially if it is better. I may buy some of the Hot Cases one day, but I'm still curious how JL, GL, AW will fit in the foam inserts. |

Basically that's what I did last month. I was able to get about 30 of them. Only problem is they don't hold the bigger diecast cars and trucks, so I'm looking for something to hold those particular vehicles. |

Thanks Juantoo3. I agree about the issues of using old/vintage storage boxes, cases. Which is why I rather not use them. I first started using Plano cases over 30-40 years ago. This was before I was filling them with diecast... back then I was filling them with my lead miniatures for D&D. I'd buy them from the fishing department at sporting good stores or Walmart. They were cheap back then. The thing I don't like on the Jammers is the dual sided thing. Unless, like you say, add padding or cushioning, the cars tend to get tossed around an flip over, etc. Right now I've been using small Sterilite boxes for my JL, GL, and AW. The cars are in small resealable bags, and stacked in the box. Makes it hard to see what you got when they are all piled on top of each other. I like the Hot Cases because of their fit, and stack-ability. I don't like the foam inserts so much, and would rather see them use plastic trays with dividers. I feel they have potential, but I'm not 100% sold on them yet. Still. I am considering them, but I'm cheap, and if I can find cheaper ways I'll do that. Any pictures of the cases you've been using? (or model numbers?) |

I use a bunch of jammers. But, for those too big vans. They go in these. DSCN9447 by Brian Walker, on Flickr DSCN9448 by Brian Walker, on FlickrGot some made by Plano, see them in fishing aisle. And some made by someone else, can't remember who. But, they are made exactly as the Plano, and just a bit different. $3-4 each is what I can usually find them for. |

I have used Hot Cases for several years now. I love them. They are watertight, airtight, and dust and dirt tight. I put all manner of cars in them, blister pack, oversized blister pack, acrylic case, and loose cars in the foam inserts. I have retrofitted many plastic tubs into Hot Cases. They work and they are worth it. |

When I have to start storing loose diecast in jammers I think I am going to go with the single sided ones. The have 24 slots, but the two where the handle are smaller if you lay them flat then the others. It also doesnt solve all the issues others have noted above, but they are stackable when you lay them flat. The are also deep enough to hold the vans. (I have the MB 3 car transporter and a HW recycler truck in one of mine and they still have clearance to the lid when flat or top edge when side ways. The longer castings dont fit just like with the double sided jammer cases, but will slide in diagonally either upright or flat. With my Corvettes and Lamborghini's I have started using the bead bags as well. This keeps them from bouncing around to much and might solve the issue for others of laying the double sided ones flat for stacking. I can also get 2 'Vettes or Lambos in the same slot that way as well. I have been getting mine from a company called Zoro and if you watch their sales and shipping deals you can get them for under $6.00 each most of the time. https://www.zoro.com/plano-molding-compartment-box-24-compartments-clear-5324-30/i/G4811904/?q=plano+5324 Edited by Milton Fox Racing, Aug 25 2017, 09:51 PM.

I use those. I found them at Wal-Mart in the automotive section. They quit supplying them for a couple of years but I see one store has them back and, of course, the price is higher now. ![]() You can also hang them on the wall: ![]() They can stand on their own but can be easily knocked over. I file mine on a shelf like books. Edited by Mark F., Aug 26 2017, 09:23 AM.

Poorvanner showed the same I use, mine have red colored clasps, otherwise seem the same. The dividers are set by the owner, I have stacks of unused dividers I will probably put in the recycle bin soon, I can fit more without them. Each car gets a cheap sandwich baggie (last I bought from Wally and Dollar Tree had 150 and 120 for a buck and tax, less than a penny apiece is cheap insurance, and I don't have the concerns using food grade plastic that I do with some other plastics...been doing for 20 years). Each slot in the jammer or the flat gets a layer of cheap tissue for cushion, and where there is concern for really fragile pieces either more tissue or packing peanuts. Been using the cheap, non-scented tissues for as long as I've been using the plastic storage boxes, and started with the peanuts recently to protect convertible windshields. It is a little extra work for loose diecast, but saves a lot of storage rash and once it becomes part of the routine doesn't take much time at all. I have an open box of baggies and tissues on hand at the ready (except when I pilfer the tissues when I have a cold, like now). |

Took a few pics now that I have my camera back:![]() Thought I still had one with the label still on it, but it looks like I prepped it for more cars already. ![]() ![]() ![]() The hinges and clasps are so much better than the first ones I bought years ago. They make waterproof boxes as well...for about 3 times the money. ![]() With a bit of creative stacking you can fit quite a bit inside... |

These firetrucks are a little awkward and fragile, so they need a little overpacking. I'm known to stuff two models in a jammer slot (Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, Lambo), but I damaged some convertible windshields and so I take a bit more care with them now. The jammers that are double stacked are quite heavy, figure 90+ cars per on average...that's more than a standard 72 ct case. I learned...if you have to force them to fit, don't! |
