says, when I comment about the Matchbox L batch and the difficulty in finding the Nissan Jr and the Datsun (oh, he brought it up responding to another collector that the first guy had 6 of the Datsun already), he reiterates that he already has 6 of them. I ask about the Nissan, and same answer, he already found 6 of them on pegs. So, with no malice or bad humor, I half-jokingly say "so YOU'RE the one who's buying all those two models in Boise"....and he says, "no, I got them all at Walmart in Ontario; I live in Ontario". Ontario, OR is about 65 miles nw of Boise; there's a Walmart there but the Kmart closed about 2 years ago. There's also one hobby shop there. Otherwise, not much else of a major community. I've gone so far as to drive all the way to Ontario to check out that WM....but not since the Kmart closed. But, I think in 12 years living in this area, I've only ever found ONE diecast car to bring home from that Walmart. And the 120+ mile round trip is out of line for such little prospect of success. And I find out today, that one store has yielded 6 of each of those two models while none of the 3 (of 8 local stores, WM and Fred Meyer/Kroger) here that pegged the L batch has had a single one of those models when I was in the store. Talk about frustration! He was nice enough to recommend I "wait a couple of months and Dollar Tree will probably have a bunch of them...." On another wacko issue, I have lost the ability to reach my cable internet's home page, so I'm free from email for the next few days until the company can send a tech out to figure out what's going on. But, as you can see (and this post is partly a test of internet connection), I can still come here and keep up with you. |

At least he did not try to resell them to you at a hiked up price like the collector (scalper) I met a few months ago......

Win some, lose some... I didn't know that green VW was a big thing, I put two of them back a few weeks ago and haven't been back since. Got the others I wanted though. |

Could have to do with collector/dealer competition, maybe the guy you met has few others hunting for the stuff where he lives, where you seem to live in the more populated area with not only the collectors living there hunting for the latest and greatest but also those folks drive in from the more rural areas to hit all your stores too.....hmmm, did you send the guy back home, tell him to leave your neighborhood hunting grounds alone. BTW, What he said about Dollar Tree is what I'm probably going to have to be waiting for to find models like those you mention. Edited by Douglas, Sep 29 2017, 04:17 PM.

if he had 6 of each and would not toss 1 of each to a fellow collector then he is not a collector but most likely a seller. |

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!

Or a customizer, LOL. I remember when the Bone Shaker first came out and I had 4 or 5 of them and all the guys at the swap meet were ready to crucify me because they thought I had already ripped them out of the blisters. I didn't volunteer to share any with the guys who I knew were just going to turn around and sell them. I probably told them I already ripped them out of the blisters... |

Well, he lives 65 miles away in a small town, so not reasonable to expect him to drive all the way back home and back to my town to give away a $1 toy to some old guy he had a chance encounter with at the only TRU in the region. As a collector myself, I can't criticize another collector who lives in a small town and reaps the benefits of disparity in distribution. You know, my post was simply about the frustration of a remote Walmart getting all the goodies while 5 area WM in my town seem to only get enough for the first person to see them to grab them all*. In other words, that WM 65 miles away got 3 cases while local stores got one and done (perhaps because there are so many WM here). *I have, on many occasions, been the "first person" to find something on pegs and buy it/them. So, again, I can't fault that guy for doing what I might have done in similar circumstances.....but then, I also think I might have got 2 each, and left any others for other folks, and that's based on what I've done in the past. |
