If you could chose the castings for an upcoming JL release, what would you choose.

I thought this would be a fun topic. Basically, if you could choose the castings for any future release of the current Johnny product lines(Classic Gold, Muscle Cars U.S.A, Street Freaks, Gone Fishing, and the hobby two packs, what castings would you choose? It would be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

For me, I would choose these six for a Classic Gold release:
Porsche 911
Jaguar E Type Roadster
GMC Syclone
1981 Chevy Malibu
1968 Ford Thunderbird
1962 Plymouth Belvedere

For a Muscle Cars U.S.A release, I would choose these six:
Plymouth Superbird
1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS
1984-1993 Chevy Corvette
1971 Dodge Demon
1964 Ford Thunderbolt
1963 Studebaker Avanti

I think any of the Corvette castings would fit into either series. Yes, even the fishing one.

A Gone Fishing set with the '57 would be pretty cool.

I think JL is only reusing existing casting not making new ones.

Yeah, I meant castings from their current casting bank.

More SquareBirds in subtler colors and nicer wheels.
I always thought the designs on the 70's vans could have been much better. A missed opportunity.

How about a 55-56-57 Tri-Chevy matching set of convertibles with continental kits?
The 61 Impala wasn't given its due of stock variations.

Wait, really? They really planned a Dusenberg? Makes you wonder if any other vehicles were planned but never released.

I would definitely try to get an entire set of what you listed haha.

The RC casting. Tom Z told us way back when (JLTalk) the Doosie SSJ from RC was being considered for the line, and shortly after TOMY shut the line down.

Back then there was quite a bit of migration from the RC line into JL. At least in the case of the Coyote, it was originally an Ertl casting that migrated to RC, and I tried to sell Tom on bringing that one into JL as well. Not sure why it never made it. Curious was the Galactic Cruiser, very poorly received as a JL, but the original Ertl issues command some serious coin. They were originally for the Blade Runner movie tie-in, and with the new Blade Runner movie about to open it seems it would be a good time to reissue with paint resembling the original(s), and again after 30 years of use as they would be today as Project in Progess. I still think a "Hitchhiker's Guide" bumper sticker would be an appropriate artistic touch, pending licensing.

It's funny that this topic came up, and you mentioned the 70s vans because I was just thinking the other day that I'd like to see one of the old 70s vans (preferably the Dodge) done as a Project In Progress.

The 70s vans need to make a comeback. I'm rather surprised they haven't. It'd also be nice to see R2's take on the Demon/Duster castings, too. I'd love to see the Lagonda casting again, but I know better than to think more than three of us would buy it.

Not to rain on your parade, but I would not count on seeing a Corvette in the fishing series pulling a boat or pulling anything for that matter. I seem to recall that Greenlight in their first Hitch and Tow release had planned to have a early Corvette casting pulling the Airstream Bambi casting. It did not materialize. And I seem to recall it was because Chevrolet would not okay the arrangement of a Corvette casting pulling any trailer. It was not the kind of image they wanted pushed for 'America's sports car'. So I doubt Chevrolet would okay Johnny Lightning hooking any Corvette castings up to a trailer. This is how I remember this all going down, but it could be just hearsay.

The nerd in me still wants to see more pizza delivery cars. Plain colored cars with pizza signs on the roof, like the Chevy Citation pizza car that was done several years ago.

Chevrolet HHR in bright red, like so many of the previous rental cars were, which now roam the streets in various stages of abuse.
96 Honda Civic
Nissan 240SX

Based simply on the Japanese car craze that is nuts in diecast right now, I think JL is missing a huge opportunity by not re-introducing the Japanese cars while the iron is still hot (assuming these castings are still available). The Integra, Civic, Accord & 240SX in particular would be hot commodities in the current collecting climate.

They could still bring the Lagonda back. You never know what they are planning to bring back.
