I likes dioramas like this but some do use very collectible cars in them sometimes UGH!
but if the toy is really broken from a kid's playtime then its all good ^_^

Will do a similar thing on my train layout :D

What I do in my train layout is to overlay a car with aluminum foil, and mold it to shape, then carefully remove it and paint the window area on the foil with gloss black and the body with flat paint and liberal applications of rust colors.

In a junk yard about 3 feet from the layout edge, the junkers look mighty fine, especially if mixed in with a few diecast cars that the kids have broken.

If you have a magnetic crane set up, you can glue a washer inside the aluminum foil body and then you can lift the "junk cars" up and load them into a gondola on the tracks.

hey great idea
but if crane is PLASTIC  you gotta glue, screw or nail crane down to hold it in place

I needs to get the Life-Like Build-A-Scene Construction Site to do that
L-L used to put out a magazine made of cheap rag paper & it had ideas to use on your layout
that was one of the ideas for that construction set
