R2 put out three cars like this. The other two, a Roadrunner and a Charger, are both JL. As for me, I have never been big into NASCAR, but, do I need a better reason other than this model is amazing? Seriously, these pictures does not do this beauty justice. ![]() ![]()

As a long time fan of Richard Petty this is one I would really like to add to my collection. I remember when I saw my first street version of the Superbird... no more to be said.

I'd definitely pick this one up. There's a #43 Roadrunner and Charger in the JL line as well. I'm currently debating on whether to pick up the Charger. |

I thought the Petty family typically drove Plymouths, at least until sometime in the 80s I think it was they switched to Pontiac...I haven't seen the Charger, I'm wondering if maybe it is a fuselage Plymouth 71-74ish? On the wing cars in particular, the Superbird is an awesome car, but I still prefer the Charger Daytona. |

Here's the two JLs:![]() ![]() These vintage stock cars are just too cool. I hope R2 continues to release models like this. Would have been neat to get this one too:

The King in a Ford would have been cool to see. 74 Charger...I don't remember seeing him in one, but it is possible I suppose. |

Those other two look mighty tempting - it has been to many years - I don't remember the whys and ifs and whatevers but do know for a few seasons it was Dodge by Petty.

If I counted right Richard Petty won seven NASCAR Grand National races in 1969 in a Ford. http://racing-reference.info/drivdet/pettyri01/1969/W Petty thought the Ford was Fast on the Superspeedway.

A quick search revealed that he did, but, it was a '72. JL used their Dodge Charger Stock Car casting for this. Same with the Plymouth. Edit: There also seemed to be a '73, and JL's stock car casting is a '73-'74. Edited by BossCar, Oct 22 2017, 11:48 AM.

Petty went to Ford in 1968. Apparently, one reason for the Superbird was to bring him back to Plymouth. https://www.topspeed.com/cars/plymouth/1970-plymouth-superbird-ar10479.html "This, along with Plymouth’s attempts to win back Richard Petty who had left the Plymouth team for Ford in 1968, resulted in the Superbird – a modified version of the Road Runner. Petty won eight races in 1970 from within the Superbird, while placing well in several others." |

I thought Petty only drove a Ford in 1969. One thing I know is that Talladega is one sweet car.

One thing that is interesting is that while the era of the Talladega, Cyclone Spoiler II, Daytona, and Superbird are referred to the Aero Wars, the Mopar duo fetch much higher prices than the FMC duo. I'm debating on whether to get one of each of the other three aero cars. |

I'm surprised to see that Racing Champions still kept the regular passenger car interior with 2 bucket seats along with the stock rims on a racing version of the car. The paint quality of this version appears to be light years ahead of the original casting. Another car that looks so much better without the clumsy side mirrors from the original. |

There were a lot of Petty cars done including Semi-haulers and the short haulers (MB I think). was a couple different ones, one had a COE hauler with car and a Chevy van. they were done in several names. I should have most of the cars of Petty and Earnhardt, the only 2 7 time champions. |
