Very nice! Every one I've found on the pegs thus far has had a crooked grille.

 Sweet looking Edsel - great color choice - now to hopefully find this one and the companion to it! As for the crooked grille - I can handle that...the 1/1 '59 I owed years ago had cracks in part of the grille surround - the original owner - yes, true story - a little old lady...who probably drove it more than just on Sunday - at the end of her driving days went to park it in her garage and forgot to stop...her son put the car up for sale within the week and I became the second owner - cracked grille and all - so...

Painting the grille details and correcting the quarter light has really improved this RC casting... however I'm not convinced they have still gotten all the details correct. The roof line, for instance, is that of the senior Corsair/Citation series, yet the front wings have the "Pacer" badging. The previous iteration of this casting had the silver "Citation" insert in the rear scallops, indicating that this is indeed meant to be a two-door Citation hard-top, rather than a Pacer - it should have Corsair badging, really, due to the absence of the silver inserts. Notwithstanding that it is an Edsel and I love it!!!

YES ! It would have looked a lot sleeker with the Pacer roofline, added the tailight "chrome" trim, and I hope they made the mesh of the grill look better than the original release.
I can also paint the tailight trim, but I'd need to cannibalize an M2 '57 Fairlane for the roof.Maybe I'll just cut the nose off and put it on the Fairlane.I've seen this done with 1:1 cars back in the old days. There are a few examples on Google.

This information is golden! I would not have known the difference without the pointer, but a google search of the two cars shows me exactly what you mentioned. Thank you!

Edsel-chero has been done in 1/1 - a guy used to show up at our big Edsel club meet in Blaine, WA/greater Vancouver, BC area with his custom Edsel-chero at the big June gathering back in the days when I stilled lived in the Northwest and had my '59 Ranger. It made for a sharp looking pickup!

That's still a great casting. Always liked the Edsel and have many die-cast of it, also have an 1/18 scale of the Edsel and Edsel-chero. Unfortunately for Ford they lost $400 million making that car.

$350 million, which would be $2.9 billion as of 2016.

I don't recall JL ever releasing an Edsel Casting... Johnnys never had those over size rear view mirrors either...
I know Round2 owns all now RC, JL, and AW...
Racing Champions had several varies of the Edsel...

The "new" one is an update of the old Racing Champions casting. I remember when I heard RC was issuing an Edsel and how excited I was that there would finally be an Edsel in 1/64th diecast. :D

I think Wikipedia is wrong. In the new documentary "The Cars That Made America" it's said to be $400 million. Also heard of just $250 million. In any case it's a ton of money that could have put them out of business, the Mustang made up for it a little.

$250 million is the number that normally gets bandied about in automotive circles, equivalent to around $2 billion in today'so money. Either way it is a lot. The Edsel was not the great disaster everyone thinks for Ford, though. 63,000 units sold in the first year was still a fair amount considering the economic downturn (DeSoto performed much worse for example) and the increase in plant production capacity would help Ford recover in the next decade.

So close...but still no Edsel. Stopped at three Wal Marts today and they had the RC release that the Edsel is a part of - but the Edsel and the Studebaker were gone - :( At least I know they are actually showing up on the pegs in these parts.

Same here. That is irritating that they let those get packaged that way, But, I've bought a couple, and I'll leave them that way in the blister for now. When I decide to pop one open, it shouldn't be too much trouble to fix.
